Scored me a pretty good deal this morning! $25 for a Kohler CV16s 16hp! The starter is good so there's my money back for sure if it turns out to be scrap. It's smooth as silk turning it by hand and feels to have good compression, the problem at hand is the wiring so I'll go through it probably this week in the evenings and hopefully have it roaring in no time! The guy also asked me if I wanted a 5hp vertical shaft Briggs for free, how could I say no!? Lol
Nice catch, I haven't had much time this week either, mainly been working on stuff in the evenings too. You should try to grab and old tractor frame and make a pulley swapped ripper with the pushmower engine, that's pretty much what I plan on doing with that vari-drive rig I have lying around, just going to rip the blown oppy off, stuff a pulley swap and a pushmower engine into it and make it an el-cheapo ripping rig, just something if I got a buddy over or whatever, they can just totally beat the snot out of that thing.

I have too many projects on the go to start another, need to get other things finished before I start on more! If it runs I'll probably throw together a raised up push mower for my stepdad to take to the cabin for the awkward spots to cut.

Yeah, me too, that's why I haven't done it yet

I did a little hill-climb work with my mower last friday. I am trying to make a path that's 15 degrees slope so it will be ok according to the Briggs (and other machines) specs. I was using the tractor to pull a folding wagon loaded with 3 cinder blocks up the hill. I had a few issues: The turf tires slipped in a lot of places. My differential is not locked. I tried pushing a little bit while somebody else drove and that worked. Many times all I had to do was step on the rear of the tractor to make more friction and then it would move by itself. I had put a u-bolt on the rear bumper to hold the wagon handle but this wagon handle doesn't go flat, it has a hinge thing that keeps it about 2 feet up. I used a C-clamp at handle height as a tow hitch so it made the front end of the tractor very light at times. The little front wheels weren't great at going over rocks half their size. I was running in low gear at idle. I'm a bit worried that any splash oiling wasn't splashy enough under those conditions. I didn't have enough room to turn around so downhill was in reverse and engine braking was necessary. The little disk brake on the tranny isn't very effective. The worst part was getting my shins banged up while trying to push or stabilize the rig when it got iffy. The sitting position and steering wheel aren't made for a hasty exit. I'm thinking maybe I should shorten the column so the wheel is more out of the way. I'm thinking that real brakes on 4 wheels would be nice, along with knobby tires and 4 wheel drive. Anyhow it pulled cinderblocks up the hill for me. I left it on the side of the hill for 2 hours while we went for lunch, then it made 3 more trips and for some reason it wouldn't start. I haven't got to it to check it out, but this is the new 17 hp briggs I posted about (in the Briggs & Stratton section I think).
