74 Wheel Horse C-100

Over the weekend I picked up the cousin of CreepyCrawler's C-120, a 1974 Wheel Horse C-100.  It has a running 10hp kohler K241, but the internal governor is messed up.  So I'm thinking down the road I will repair this engine and put it on my 69 Raider 12.  In the meantime this tractor will be the one built for TTC 2021 for the following reasons:
-highly desirable 8 pinion 8 speed
-the steering is tight and not all broken and bent up
-separate clutch and brake pedal which will make pulley swapping easier

So this will be getting the 18hp duromax and all the neccessary off road upgrades.

Here's a small update.  I've been working on tearing down the tractor and getting it power washed.  I'm glad I found this one.  It's in way better shape to build for hard core off road TTC.

To Do List:
-Lock rear end, orders seals and gasket
-Order tires, rims, and new front bearings
-replace tie rods and align (in stock, just need paint)
-replace steering column bushing in dash (this is a bad one)
-install duromax when it gets here
-trans braces
-front bumper
-rob seat from raider 12
-build another gas pedal/dual throttle
-order agm battery, tethered kill and make a wiring harness
-modify clutch and pulley system

Im excited its gonna be a solid build

@Wheelinhorse I never painted the other one, I just painted the trans, tie rods, and touch up. It actually came that way from the scrap yard. I kinda like the patina on this one but it is a little rough. I've though about doing some kind of oil treatment to it down the the road.

@crazy_carl    Really dig how you keep them pretty 'factory stock' in appearance!

well getting the first hub off the transmission went OK, The second one not so much we broke a couple pieces off of it before my dad got the bright idea to build this puller today:

I got the diff carrier bearings replaced in the transmission.  I also upgraded the upper support bearing for the steering column.  taking a different direction with this tractor.  I just want to put it back together unlocked with the K241 as a rustoration and use it as a worker maybe some off-road stuff.

I like the upper support bearing upgrade, very rugged!

Cool tractor man I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Man…those tri ribs…

I got my rear tires mounted and in the electrical system put back together.  I’m still waiting on miscellaneous parts to make it driving again but I can at least start it up very soon.

I found a light bar that bolts right in with a little massaging.  Clears the air cleaner and only draws .85 amps.

The seal I was waiting on came in so I got the belt put back on and had a really good successful first shakedown run with no issues.  I just have some easy details to finish like wheel weights, voltmeter, a stack and maybe a new gas cap.  I got my plow mounted up and I’m excited to use it this winter.

I put a stack and rear wheel weights on this tractor. I absolutely love plowing with it.

I scrubbed down the rusty hood and fender paint using water and SOS pads. Then I applied a coat of linseed oil and it came out great!

Comment on linseed oil for those of us who do not know, my dad has a metal tray on casters that he puts his tools on, one day he was using a rag to oil something with linseed oil and just put the rag on that tray with a bunch of his tools, went inside and a couple hours later we noticed something was burning in the shop, it was the linseed oil on the rag that just randomly combusted, he wheeled the tray outside and dumped it in the snow, but it burned all his tools, ands probably would have burned his shop down had he not put it out... anyway, my point is, if you have linseed oil on a rag, it is possible that it will just light the rag on fire and cause serious damage.

@TechnoChicken oh my God! I had no idea! I did a small Internet search and it revealed that the oil soaked rags are extremely combustible so I immediately put the couple I had in water. I was grinding around those today!…oops

I routinely dry any rags that have been used with boiled linseed oil. Don’t pile them up. Hang them to dry. BLO polymerizes (turns to plastic essentially) as it dries. That is what makes it good for coatings.

I set up the C-100 for summertime mowing because I like how the seat is mounted directly on the fenders for a lower center of gravity for mowing on the side hill and it’s easier for me to reach the pedals with my short legs.  Plus this thing with tri ribs steers like a dream so I put turfs on it and borrowed the mower deck from my C125. I also put the OG steering wheel back on it so I have the steering wheel as a back up for the Raider 12.

You wouldn't mind if I borrowed this idea would you? I've not had much luck with the plastic dash bushing.

@BlakeGroce go ahead buddy! I’m on here to share my ideas

I busted out the stick welder and made this receiver hitch for moving bigger trailers around.  I can still keep the plow mount and the five gallon bucket mount on at the same time. I also scored these 10.5" wide cub wheels for $40 at the steam pageant because the left one leaked but it just needed a valve stem and the bead re-seated!
