Wiring problem... Stator smoking Empty
PostSubject: Wiring problem... Stator smoking   Wiring problem... Stator smoking Icon_minitimeSeptember 24th 2020, 11:15 am

Got a wiring problem. Big time wiring problem. Wired up the 20hp dual carbed tecumseh vtwin. My push button start wouldn't ingage the Solenoid but i could here it clicking inside the Solenoid. I could jump the power from one side to the other with a wire. Ran good then all of a sudden after a couple minutes smoke was rolling out from under the flywheel like the stator was being fried. The wire that is coming off the existing wiring on the engine to the position side of Solenoid is fried. Checked the wiring 3 time and I've never had this issue before with my diagram I made. Any ideas? Solenoid issues?

It could be a bad solenoid grounding out inside. That being the weakest link currently. I would disconnect your battery as well if that is getting hot. Possible the stator is fried and grounding itself out.

Sounds like stator diode is bad and battery is shorting back through with high current. Check that electricity isn't backflowing through the diode. There should be no voltage through the charging wire with the engine off.

If you have an ammeter(amp meter) in the charging circuit you will see a massive discharge.

Forgot to get back on here after I figured out what happened. Push Button Start wasn't worked because it went bad. Other problem was when I jumped the bad Solenoid to fire engine wires had touched each other causing it to short out and sent high current to the stator. Don't know if its fried or not. All I wanted to do was make sure everything worked before I taped it up. I'll never do that again.

If your stator still charges it's fine. I've accidentally given them a good cooking. They tolerate more than you'd think.
