| Hi all, I swapped my pulley on my tractor last night and put the belt on it this morning. I went from a 8 inch pulley to a 5 inch pulley and from a 90 inch belt to an 83 inch belt. I took it out for a test drive and I had to push down the clutch/brake petal to get it to move. Then the belt started to smoke. What might cause this? | |

| You may have the belt routed wrong or the brake stuck on and making the belt or the brake (or both) smoke | |

| I did have the belt routed wrong fixed that. It now squeaks when driving, and when its in neutral you can't push it. The wheels are locked up and you have to push it along the ground. Is it normal for you to have to put it at high throttle to get it to go forward without stalling? | |

| Yeah it definitely sounds like the brake is locking up somehow. | Your brake linkage may be out of adjustment, that would most likely be the culprit | |

| Yeah, sounds like the brakes. Try loosening that nut, should free up the brakes. | |

| I wouldn't loosen the adjustment nut, because then the brakes won't work. It's clearly a linkage problem if everything was working fine before, so I'd say start with the linkages. | Breaks seem to be fixed... When I push it then press the petal it will stop. I was looking under it when I adjusted the brakes and I was missing a cotter pin on the shifter.. Might be why it was popping out of gear! I also noticed that the belt was rubbing on the shifter so I rerouted the belt to the inside of the shifter instead of the outside. When I went to take it for a test drive because I have only been driving it for shout periods of time the battery is dead. It is on charger now and I will message back wether it works or not. How fast should I expect it to go? Anything I definitely need to keep an eye on? | |

| Well, when I did that to mine, it went about 9 MPH. And, yes, when you are done, feel the transaxle to see if it's warm or hot, if it is, the oil may need to be topped off. | |

| I just took it out for a test drive and it goes 13.5 MPH compared to 7 MPH before! The transmission feels fine and I am still adjusting the breaks by the method listed by Double W Cross Ranch. Thanks for all your help in my journey! I will message back if anything else happens. | |

| Nothing wrong adjusting it that way especially if the linkage adjustment rod is loose. Be cautious that making it too loose will remove your brakes. | |
