Been working on this one for about a month or so, couldn't get it to run right, then I soaked the carb for a few days in a magic brew of paint thinner, sea foam & carb cleaner, it opened up and started to run right... I put tubes in the tires, new ignition, battery, valve cover gasket, and oil, now it seems to be running cutting ok.... It is too small for my yard, but i like the deck control lever it is pretty sweet.... gonna try and sell it for 350? something like that....

$350 seems fair.  Does it have just a 38" deck.  Does  that JD have the pto lever on the dash?  I thought I saw a PTO switch on the right fender but I could be mistaken.

Its a STX38, so 38 in deck with a hood from a 30. PTO & ignition on the fender. I see people asking good money for john deere stuff.

got a free bolens thing, the deck has a broken weld on a bracket but I think it is fixable. I drove it, has a 15hp, the MTD trans is stupid in my opinion since you have to put it in a fwd N or rev , clutch and then pick a gear, but whatever. Probably just fix the deck and sell or get a trailer for it and sell....

Yeah this looks like a good one to flip.  Did it come with the WD 40 can?   My ATC200 came with that in the trunk!

Yeah came with the WD and a free dog leash holding up the mowing deck. Still best free item I got was the mouse that was in my simplicity haha.

Seems like this model of MTD kind of sucks, its made real cheap, originally sold by lowes. Im considering keeping the engine but I need the cash.

Cool looking mower, I like the hood on it. Free is always best. Had one of those Intek single cyl. engines in for servicing recently, they seem quite good engines, even if they are a little more complicated that the older flatheads.

put some 25's on my 1811 today, worked out pretty good, just fit without cutting......

look what came thru tonight..... MTD red thing, basically the same tractor as the green bolens i just got, i bought it for 20bucks. It has a good deck and i wanna throw it on the green bolens. Is this white tag really the engine serial number on these>?

The numbers should be stamped into the top of the valve cover

Ok ill check that out, these engines are pretty ugly and cheap ass looking with the corny looking vacuum cleaner compartment air cleaner thing, but the 15hp I have runs, this 12.5 is to be determined. I might use this one to drive thru the woods & bang into trees.

The bolens mower is the dumbest mower I have ever used, It will not start unless you are sitting in the seat, and you have to turn the key and press a button to mow in reverse.

Common annoying safety features these days, I’ve jumpered out a lot of reverse switches but not on something I’d sell.

picked up some craftsman Lt  pretty junky but the one has a kohler engine and the other has a 19.5 oppsed...

blown head gasket from what i can tell on the kohler, since it puffs air out the bottom where the head meets engine.  The opposed appears to be in good shape, needs some stuff hooked up before i try it.

The opposed must have been swapped into that second one because the sticker says "Kohler Pro 17 OHV" and it's a Briggs twin flatty.

haha yes both tractors have non original engines..... no idea how it happened, so whatever... will try to start the opposed this week and see what happens.....

I got it on this weekend with this MTD junk pile......


tractor is a pile of junk but it runs good so i need to find some atv tires for it.....

That’s a pretty sweet picture man! Those MTDs are not very good tractors, but with a lot of patience and angle iron they can be ok

yeah the whole double belt transaxle varidrive is stupid in my opinion & this one makes some stupid noises when you come to a quick stop, like belt or pulley slapping like that.... Anyway im just gonna use it to beat around the yard & woods.

WHAT is this thing called on the engine cover with the wires cut? I have seen them before, forget what they do?

Looks like something for the charging system. A resister or diode of some kind?
