Had my first test drive......... YEAH BABY!!!!!! Man in first gear it goes about 12 mph at high throttle with belt slip. Twas kinda sketchy as I had a hand throttle , and no breaks, seat, clutch, kill switch ect... used a ditch to stop and set the grass on fire with my muffler..... my dogs not too photogenic as you can tell

How much oil would be In the 700? It's leaking bad put the side bushings... .

Oh never mind hehe. My tranny bent was blowing oil put and it was running down the case. A vent tube fixed it.

What weight oil did you put in it and roughly how much?

If you are doing 12 in first gear. You definitely needed a vent.

Bigg how much life insurance do you have? Might want to get a massive plan anyway, don't expect to have to pay it too long....

It already had a vent tube butbi didn't have the vent line on the fitting. I put 5w 30 motor oil in it because I thought I was put of gear oil then after that I found my gear oil. Lol . So I will probably suck out the old stuff and put in the right oil. It's 75w 90 gear oil. The engine oil should have helped clean it up on the gears too.i did clean out the case and wipe off the gears bit it still wasn't perfect.

Yeah double I have life insurance to cover my funeral costs. Don't need much else lol. My first high speed test run will be along the tree row where there's grass and it's pretty smooth in case of failure and it doesn't have wash board like tgecgravel road.
The belt is loose but it still drives without a clutch but there is belt slippage when turning and when I rev it up wuick.

I might slow it down... The wheel speed is pretty high

I almost got a seat on it, but drill battery died. And the belt is finally stretching out a bit but it still kinda drives in 1rt gear , hopefully wears enough to stop that so I don't need to buy another belt

Congrats on the test drive! Always a milestone on any build. The exhaust looks great, bet it sounds good too!

If only you had some way to measure rpm. It would be nice to know exactly how fast that tire was turning.

Well lol.made a clutch, put on the seat, and took her out .....

Pretty scary, the clutch works but I do need a 1 inch longer belt cause it's still not setting still in gear with the clutch alot eh way in . I o my went up through forth but man , it gets going. I'd say 60 mph is very achievable because this engine handles the rpms very well and in 3rd gear I think it's around 38 mph in the high rpm range. The oil is still flinging everywhere, might need to put some grease in it to thicken it up or something. There aren't any seals on the outputs anyway

Got a 47 inch belt instead of the 46 inch that was on it. Now I need to make a new double pulley clutch but at least it will clutch now lol. Got it at tsc for$ 6:99 . Also was looking through the clearance bin and found a 5 pack of dewalt cutting discs marked down to 5.29 then when they rang it up it was 2.29!! That was a good deal lol they are the ones that have the arbor raised to extend the cutting sheep out for deeper cuts.

Nice deals man.  You'll use those discs on the build off machines for sure.

I think I am going to add grease to the tranny, it's p*ssing oil out the bushings . Making a big mess on the frame.

Do guys using this trans in racers have this problem too?  I wonder what they do.

One guy I talked to awhile ago said they leak but he just lived with it. The bottom seal is fine but the bushings are the issue here. I might just put some heavier oil in it with grease and call it good.

Is there a way to put some o-rings around the shafts inside the case to help slow the leak or something like that?

I think they change out the bushings for bearings.

That's probably the better option really.

bearings? like the ones for the inputshafts ? i guess the diameter is similar , i will dig through my parts pile and see what ive got. i mean i have literally tubs of tranny parts from all the trannys i have broken or gotten when they were broken.

I didn't read every post but for your belt dragging issue, a guide or guard fairly close around the engine pulley may help to stop it. Sometimes they pull themselves tight if they don't have a guard around them, which keeps it dragging. Looks cool though. Nifty exhaust.
