That frame will definitely be strong enough. I love those F style clamps. I have a couple of mini 4" and big 12" ones at work and at home. I use them all the time. They make a handy press or spreader in a pinch too.

I do feel like the frame is a little on the overkill side. One of my goals with this build was to make it as light as possiable but solid and strong. When i went to buy that 1in x 3in rect tube i was wanting 14ga wall thickness, but they weren't carring it anymore so i went with 1/8in instead. Now thinking back should've got 1in x 2in x 1/8.
There is going to be another section of frame under that main part and that will consist of 1in x 1in sq tube with 1/8 wall too. So after all of the bracing and mount bars/tabs are installed, i'll be going through and trying to lighten anything i can.

I've learned my lesson on clamps, buy some good ones. They dont need to be the top of the line expensive ones but the bottom of the barrel ones just dont last that long or preform well. Then a good selection of lenghts and styles helps out alot to.

That frame is looking sweet.  Going to be very sturdy.  Excellent example of a custom frame.

The frame still has a long way to go till its done, got to get other parts done on here to get measurements and figure out part's placement to finish it up.  

Most of my parts came in this week now im hoping to get one of my half started setups done so i can post it and get this build up to date

24 bronze bushings
3 different od. of dom tube
Rod ends
Metric bolts
SS shim washers
Ill go more indept on parts when i use them on build

Here is the start of my rear axle bearing mount wheel support thingamajigs

Started out as a pc of 3/16 steel plate, i then  cut 2 pcs out at 6.500in x 5.375in i think.  Then marked out the bearing mounting flange on it an centered punched the marked holes.



Then over to the drill press and drilled 3 - 12mm holes and one big 3 3/8 hole out



Then to the bandsaw where i did the final shaping of them



There is still a lot more of wotk that needs to go into theses hopefully ill got the next stage posted tomorrow.

Nice work and an interesting shape there. I'm curious to see how they will weld up to your chassis.

MightyRaze - thanks, the pic makes them look alot beter than they are. But i did run my little 90° air grinder with a sanding pad on it over the cut edges to clean up the saw blade teeth marks. That did make a big difference in appearance.

Crazy carl - thanks, i cut them like that to keep them as small as possible. Kinda trying to save weight. They wont be welded on but stay tuned and you'll see how they mount.

Part 2

I had to make some pivot bushing mounts for them. Need 4 total.  
Used 1in od tube with 3/16 wall and bored both the ends out to 3/4 x 5/8 deep.  Installed a bronze bushing in each end. Then out of some 1/2 dom tube i cut the inner sleeves.



Then took some strips of metal and made a jig to bolt and clamp everything together. All i did was tack weld them in place.



Then cut all kinds of little pcs to make sides for them.



Bolted it back into the jig and welded all seams front and back.



Ground all front welds down flush and trimmed all side up to give it a nice shape - look.

Interesting... I am at a loss as to what you are doing but it looks nice! I am intrigued.

You are right, dual a-arm setup.

Here is the outer a-arm piviot mounts. Started life as 3x3x .250 wall rectangle tube. Cut 2 1in pcs off.




Then marked out the hole locations and drilled out to 3/8.



All cut apart and corners rounded and edges sanded.




Will be welded to the a-arms but they mount like this.

Fantastic fab work! Can't wait to see the independent setup when it's done.

This is some beautiful fabrication work.  Did you grind the radi on the pivot mounts by eye?  They all look really consistent.

Wow that is sharp! I wish I had the skills and patience to make something as clean and beautiful as that.

Crazy carl-  i outlined a coin on there and roughed it in with an angle grinder.  The belt sander is what did the magic and made them uniformed.

Prancstaman-  was tryin to keep it somewhere between 42 - 46 in wide. But it kinda looking to end up somewhere around 49 with the a arms leveled out.

To everybody-      The build kinda went on hold there for a little bit. Had to get some life stuff done around the house and the foot print first ended up way to big, around 52in. So instead of working on it i just keep looking over my options. I got it down (on paper) some and now i think ill give it a go. But i may build a new frame again for it but that will be decided at a later date

I made all the inner piviot sleeves for the irs, and started to make the inboard piviot points for the a arms but i ran out of metal. They use same techniques to make just different lenghts and hole sizes.

Inner sleeves are 1/2 od x 3/8 id. I rough cut the parts out of a tube with a cutoff wheel



Then chuck them up in lathe and tookem to size and reamed the hole to a true .375in


Here is the finished parts. The inboard piviot points are on the right. They are 1in od x 5/8 id. The assembly in lower center is how they go together.  The sleeve goes in a bronze bushing and that will be pressed in the inboard piviot point that will get welded to a arm tube
