| So I’m starting a project on a ford lgt 165 I’m going to be getting, first I need some help with how much fixing a peerless 2500 would cost. Because the person I’m buying this tractor from won’t go below 400 and that’s all my budget. I’ll add a photo for your thoughts. I need to fix the trans because he said it was acting funny whatever that means for him.

| Well asking how much it would cost to fix it is a pretty broad question, there could be any number of things wrong with it. Also hydros arent the easiest thing to work on internally I dont think. What kinda engine is in it? | It has a 16hp Koehler k321qs I heard the q stars for a larger oil pan or something realeted to that. From what I know the transmission does work just works in “weird” way. But I think the guy is just confused because it has high and low range. | |

| Oh ok, hopefully it's nothing too major. Also if it's a 16hp Kohler it will be a K341, the K321 is a 14hp engine. The Q stands for "Quiet Muffler" and the S is for electric starter. | if there is an "A" in the number, thats stands for special oil pan. I pulled a 16hp off a Jacobson, and the sumps was part for the mowers frame. The front axle pivot was cast into it. Is this for a toy of a work tractor? IMHO, 400 is too much. Way too much for a toy... and too much for just a tractor. Does it come with any attachments? Spare parts? I dont mean to discourage you, but I know what its like to pay alot for something and regret it later... #$@& Jeep...Im also a cheap swine to so... | |

| To be honest I agree with Beal about the price, judging by the tires it has sat for a while so there could be other things wrong with it. But if you can get it for a cheaper price I'd say snatch it up! | I originally offered 150-200 but he said he was “advised” by a friend that it was worth 400 I am still waiting to hear back if it is a three point. If it is it would have front pto, and rear pto, still trying to get him lower he wouldn’t take an offer for 350 so I’m gunna try 375 and see if he will do that. And this is for a work tractor, I need to get a new tractor bc my main tractor witch is a craftsma 2 keeps cutting the belt and is rusted all over. Also my dad loves Chevy and hates ford, and I personally love ford so yah. Why would I not get it, also here is the link to the listing https://stjoseph.craigslist.org/grd/6301518941.html if he won’t go any lower and since my budget is limited I have a few other tractors I’m looking at but would rather take the ford. | |

| I duno know man. 375 is still a bit much. What are your other options?
Now if it came with the attachments thatd be better... but somehow I dont think he is going to through them in. | |

| Yah, $400 seems too high for that Ford even if he throws in the deck or blade... That Craftsman is a way better deal. The 22 hp Kohler in it is worth way more then the asking price of the whole tractor. The Ford, I'd send him a reply of $150, as is, if he says no or don't answer in an hour, move on because there is way more work involved to get it going then meets the pic. The tires alone to replace would be $100 for it to be reliable for a work tractor. Plus time to go through the whole thing to make sure it will run just to do the work. You could do more with the Craftsman, and probably be cheaper for parts just because of it being a Craftsman, with a more reliable driveline. | |

| I sent him one asking 165 and 200 and he continuously says “my friend says it’s worth 400 as is” even though I hardly believe it. I told him the trans will be 300-400 dollars to fix and I would need new tires and if the engine is bad a full rebuild is 700 but he still says 400 only that’s as low as I go. So looks like I’m staying with the craftsman, I’ll keep everyone posted with that I’m getting more photos of it tomorrow so I’m gunna be getting that then. Also thanks for the advice with the craftsman my family business has only had craftsman and John Deere’s and that’s all that we have used, might as well stick to what works aka this craftsman | |

| I think You would be better off getting the craftsman. Definitely stick with what you know, only way to come out on top. Sounds like that guy's friend should buy the Ford, LOL. | |

| Does that Craftsman have the Roper style transaxle in it or a hydro? I kinda think I can see a shifter but I'm not sure. | The picture looks to have the roper high/low style. I can see the shifter. If you can't see the shifter look for the pointy cone shaped axle sticking out several inches from the hub like this pic. | |

| Yeah It has the high low with the manual shift, we have a straight shift one like that photo though, and no it’s not a hydro trans. | |

| The "straight shift" would be a peerless 820. If it is an H pattern its a peerless 2300 or roper 633. 633 has an aluminum case and the 2300 is cast iron, but very similar otherwise. | |
