2017 Build-Off Discussion

Nice video! Now I just need to ask my inlaws about the tractor in their field and some $$ for some parts!

I will be in this thing but as with last year everything is under snow and ice. Enjoy the head start every one in the warm parts of the world.

So I'll be building a monster tractor for the buildoff. Got an old JC Penny mower that needs love.  Will drag it out from behind the shed and start an overall assesment of where she stands tomorrow.

I have my suburban I started, but is waaay far from being done. I do want to revamp a few things I've started on it, could I enter it in the buildoff? There are pics in my thread of what I have so far.

Almost done with the rat rod body, still have 1 panel to build and put final touches on the rest. Now that the contest has started, that will get moved to the back burner and more serious frame work will start this week. Collecting parts to complete the build.

I clicked on the link in the locked 3-2-1 post and it sent me to a list of build off topics. Where do I put my official build start post?

There wasnt any builds posted the first time I looked and was expecting a "sub folder" for the builds. I think I have it figured out now, thanks

I would think so!  I still need to ask the in-laws about their Murray in their field.  I may join in as well.  I have an awesome idea for it.  

That will make such an awesome rat rod. Low, lean, and fast. Thats what we're doing with the dynamark

Little bummed, Today was the day I was hoping, "Yeah, load it up and take it home".  Instead I got hesitation and a deflection to the conversation.  Little surprised about that, but it is what it is.  

I am re-evaluating at this time.

Hopefully you get it. Would be cool if someone built a Murray GT alongside me.

Unfortunately, it does not appear to be this year for that Murray.  I am getting an inkling of possibly doing a role reclassification surgery on Sasquatch.  The orange Craftsman II I have.  It's already been modded to use a vertical engine over the horizontal that it use to have.  Since building my mudding mower last year, I have found that I am using it in place of the Craftsman II putting it out of work rotting in the back of the shed.  I'm going to draw up my thoughts this weekend and see how it comes out.  If I like it, looks like I will be entering the 2017 build-off!  So far, I think I am going to like it.  Even though it is a working tractor today, the mods required I think put it under the 50% done.  :-)

Got a call tonight from my father-in-law. Hey you still want that Murray, you can have it.  

Guess I can put it behind the shed and use it next year!

Would a Kohler KDW 702 diesel engine qualify? it is a inline Twin, liquid cooled, OHC diesel? and also for the remote kill, if the engine has a fuel solenoid will that work?

I would think so. What are they primarily used in, generators.

Remote kill just means you cant touch the engine to shut it off, like shoving your hand in the intake for example.

The engine series is used in construction equipment, generators, heck the Kohler KDW 1003 which is the next engine in the series is used in the new Polaris Ranger diesel UTV, the engine that i am thinking of is a new surplus one is the second one in the set of pictures, the first one is meant for a generator. My plan is to put the second one into a MTD 990 garden tractor

It is a MTD 990 not a LT
