Seen an add in Craigslist last night for a $50 generator. Troy Bilt 6550/8550 with Briggs 10hp. Said it quit running after putting ethanol in it. I messaged the guy and I was the first to go look at it. My dad has an engine that would work on it should it be shot.
Got to the guy's house, which happened to be next door to my wife's parents. :-) Looked it over, it appears to have blown the oil out the muffler. I pulled on the string and it had really good compression so I bit and purchased the generator.
I got it home and first thing I did was drain the tank which had "Red" fuel in it. It was really strong smelling. Next I went to drain the oil and right off, it was full of gas. (at this point I had a good idea what the issue was). Got it flushed out and new oil put in. Pulled off the carb and it was full of junk, including the bowl. As expected the needle valve had trash in it. I got it all cleaned up and I also noticed a needed adjustment on the float. Put it all back together and:
Really short but you get the idea. I used the leaf blower on it for about 15 minutes. Worked great. Good to finally be the one to catch the good deal first.

I got no idea, there is still a lot of junk in it. Going to take a bit to get it 100%. It will need a carb kit at some time. Needs an air filter too. It still tries to flood a little bit. I will do a full bath on the carb closer to Christmas.
I've been looking online and probably just get a new carb. They seem pretty reasonable. Also need a gas cap.
