Well it turns over with the starter and has compression, but it needs a new carb and a little cleaning as both tractors sat outside for a long time. But it shouldnt be too bad to get 'er running hopefully. I cant wait to drive it! Hahaha

Turns over and compression is a good start. One thing you will notice is how HIGH you sit on it and not feel like you are going to fall over.

Or.... they attach "vintage" and add $200.

I did notice that when I sat on it breifly hahaha. Yeah this guy actually said "Just take 'em". He even helped us load them in the trailer. He was a pretty nice dude.

That's awesome, sometimes you can find those people that just want the stuff gone!

That was 2 clicks down from High right?  I know sometimes if not used, low can get a little hard to shift into.  Sometimes I had to let the belt spin a little bit while trying to shift in the past till loosened up.  It will definitely need an oil change probably.  SAE30. 5Qts Most people call for non-detergent as it does not have a filter.

Also if it helps in looking up, I believe the transaxle in the craftsman is a 105401X which I think is a newer generation of the 633.

Edit: Also, the high/low peg in the transaxle is adjustable. Not sure how many turns before it falls out, .

free is my favourite, good score, cant wait to see whats in store for that GT6000.

Thanks for the advice mighty. It's actually a 122419X, but it is still the newer version. The thing it it shifts into low range, but doesn't engage any gears. In any gear in low range you can spin the input pulley like its in neutral.

Whoo, that was a close one!!

So now that youve got the front end back together... might I suggest adding something to it?

Some braces on these tabs would be a good thing.

Some braces on the back side of the outer 3-link mounts might not be a bad idea, but I actually do have one on the top of each one.



They've held up so far, but now that I say that they'll probably break hahaha. If I ever get a chance I'll probably add the braces like you suggested though Beal, the more steel the better!

The pipe you used for the spindle tubes... just some water pipe?

Just remembered I have a spare MTD front end... maybe Ill use it after all... for, "Another Thing"

The pipe was just some old stuff from a grain drill I think, for the lift for the markers or something. It was like 3/16" think or something like that.

I dropped the Peerless out if the little Craftsman today so I could get the MTD moving again.









It actually has three sealed ball bearings and four shifts forks, so it's fairly heavy duty really. I told Carter he can have it for his Jake if he wants.


But anyways I got my differential pin!



Put 'er in the vise to tear 'er down.



The diff assembly all put back together!



Also a neat trick for you guys that like to make your own gaskets out of cardboard, lay the cardboard down on the object and tap around the mating surface with the round side of a ball peen hammer. If it has a sharp edge like most cast things the gasket pretty much cuts itself out. It works for transaxles, engine oil pans, flanges, as long as it has a nice sharp edge.  I've even done it on a Briggs oppy carburetor.



All back together and ready to be installed!

Everything works great, she drives and shifts smooth and no funny noises. I sure am happy to have 'er rolling again!
