No such animal. Not from any of the regular OPE manufacturers that I am aware of, anyways.

There ARE full-pressure-lubricated opposed (flathead) twins. A bit more rare, but they are out there. My Kohler Magnum in MULE is one.

There are some Briggs oppys like that too. I have one, it just doesn't have the oil cooler. Too bad the lower part of the block is destroyed or I would use the oil filter and stuff.

I think you guys both misunderstood me, maybe my fault for not being clear enough. Briggs DID make a pressure lubed oppy, they are just pretty hard to come by. I brought up my Kohler to illustrate that there ARE other options. And, FWIW- the Kohler Magnum oppy is superior to the Briggs, on several counts. I'll take the Magnum.

What's so unreliable about ohv? With all stock parts, I would think the rods would still be the weak link. Not that I have blown up too many engines, but I haven't seen too many people complaining of valve issues.

It's as simple as- wait for it- more moving parts. And OHV engine has more moving parts than a flathead, and more than an OHC.

One thing I see on a VERY regular basis, is the valve lash adjustment being neglected. Either folks are not reading the owner's manual, ignorant, or forgetful- but a lot of people seem to be unaware that adjusting the valve lash on an OHV engine is indeed a regular maintenance item- usually prescribed for every 100 hours of operating time.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard "my engine (OHV) won't start, even with a boost", and it turned out the user had NO clue about the valve lash setting or the compression relief directly affected by it... Well- I'd be a very rich man.
