| Chain tensioner bracket welded to the transmission cross member. On the underside will be a gusset. | |

| Dont want to be mr. safety but id add a aluminum chain guard that will take the blut wack out of it if it flys off, and contains it. My rig is relatively unsafe (lol) but chains letting go is pretty violent. Probably wont ever come off but id try and make it safer. Could wack your back or hit your leg, who knows. Oh yea, and i still love the mocked rear fenders and front flares. Should really make that happen! | |

| hi there, i think its cool that you chose the 037 group B as an inspiration, that was a crazy time for rallying! the wee wagon goes well, did you clock the top end speed at all? | |

| No I haven't checked actual top speed yet. I know it can go faster than I've driven it, at least a little, but when it get's revved up high the engine gets raspy. Jetting isn't dialed in quite right yet. It's hard to tell what your doing with the dual carbs. I was thinking about bringing it somewhere with a long straight so I can run it wide open for a minute or two and then shut it down and read the plugs. At least get the cylinders matched up better. It runs good otherwise, just the very top end isn't quite right. About the chain guard, I was thinking about that today. I might make one, but the chain should stay in line with how it's set on the gears and your body shouldn't be in the danger zone anywhere. There are a couple unused threaded holes in the top of the peerless that I could bolt a guard too pretty easy. Or I could weld something permanent to the seat brace tube. Here is the block of wood I used for a temporary chain tensioner during testing. Has since been used in the stove to keep the shop warm. All that's left now before disassebly for painting is to weld on brackets for the gas tank/rear fender holder. | |

| I think the primer was duplicolor. Hot rod grey primer. Frame top coated. Over spray was an issue with how many angles there were to paint on this thing, but most of it won't be visible when everything is bolted back on. Over all I think it looks pretty good. On the way back together. Chain tensioner a little more high tech now. It's a tight fit but it should work ok. | |

| Thanks. Actually it's machinery grey, but it looks white with the sun shining on it. I'm just trying to decide now if I should put head gaskets in the engine before bolting it back on. Only a couple more steering parts to paint plus the grill and most of it will be done. Then I can try it at night and see how the headlights work. | |

| I brought the frame home and was going to assemble it there. Still didn't bring the engine and other parts back yet. Should only take a day or so to get it mostly assembled again. Then of course I have to finish the gas tank bracket to run it. I need to get some of that cool yellow tygon fuel line for it too. I was thinking of just buying a 50' roll of it online so I have it for my other stuff. Probably need about 10' of line for this with all the vacuum and lines to both carbs. This summer I'll definitely get some video of the finished machine in action. I want to try it out at night and see if you can actually see where your going at speed with the lights. | |

| Thanks alliskid and yeah doug I know. It's been a year and I haven't finished this thing. It will be getting rear fenders and plastic mud flaps. They will be attached to the gas tank structure. I wish I had a hood figured out better somehow, but I guess I'm just going to leave it. So much for getting any video of this thing over the summer. | |

| Thanks guys. The gas tank is going behind the seat. In fact I just finished most of the welding on the rod structure that holds the tank about an hour ago. Just took it for the first ride since the test run video. Forgot how much of a death machine this is. Let the clutch out too quick in 1st and you the front end jumps off the ground. Definitely has more than enough power. Gear selection hardly seems to matter. I think you can start off in 2nd if you wanted and as long as your rolling along, you can go straight to 5th gear without much hassle. 4th is tough to feel. I think some times it's just going from 3rd to 5th. Maybe I could tighten up the shift ball spring so I can feel it better. Clutch and everything seems to work good. Still runs good after sitting too, I was afraid the carbs might be gummy. Pics of the gas tank and rear end work soon. | |
