| Has anyone cut Turf Tamers? I cut my friend's tires to use until he can find some ATV tires. I was wondering if I can cut any deeper than the lug before putting a hole in the tire? | |

| In theory, yes- you CAN go deeper than the lug. Just HOW deep is going to depend on the carcass constuction of that particular tire. All things considered though, I would NOT be inclined to cut that deep. | |

| I think I'm going to cut the front tires on my machine. I came up with a pattern I like. I'll post the pics later. | |

| My front tire: Using a razor blade to cut the knobs in half, then a sharp wood chisel that is lightly wider than the knob I didn't need to heat up the chisel or even use a hammer. Just a simple rocking left/right motion will do it. The final pattern. I did a little bit in between welding.

| I was organizing my photobucket account. Refresh and tell me if they're there (I see them right now). If not, I'll fix. | |

I'm working in an enclosed area that's 50 degrees. The hot chisel would make some nasty smoke and I'd have to open the door and let the cold air in. | |

| yeah, but if you do not have much money, then it is worth the effort. if you could work overtime or cut tires, it would be cheaper to buy tires. but if you are a kid who picks blueberrys in the summer for 2 months at $2 for every 10 lbs you pick, and go to school the rest of the time, it is worthwhile | |

| Thanks for posting! I like that process for cutting tires. Looks like you've figured out how to do it the easy way! Please don't take this too personal, but that pattern in the pic (paint) looks like it's designed for 4WD. Since the tractor has neither brakes nor drive going to the front wheels, all that tire needs to do is steer. I'd suggest a pattern that looks more like the ribbed tires or front tires from a ATV. Like the ones I'm getting set to install on mine when I get the time. Tires with a tread pattern that goes the long way around usually work great for steering, but not good for power traction. The 4-4 pattern that you did originally works well for steering and power / braking. And tires with tread rows going across the tire work well for braking and power, but not as well for steering. Cut your patterns as close to this as possible and the machine will handle awesome. | |

| The chisel method works great for old, dry-rotted tires, but not so well on newer tires. This Dremel Multimax tool works great on those. I'm cutting a set of rear tires here. The blade width is almost perfect. It does make a little tire smoke as it cuts though. | |

| you guys are correct, that tread is wrong for the front, but fine for the back. this is the best picture i could find of a turf, which is the reason for it being on the front. | |
