| you guys are correct, that tread is wrong for the front, but fine for the back. this is the best picture i could find of a turf, which is the reason for it being on the front. | |

| Great idea B440! I may try that along with my "professional" tire cutter to see which one is better for different durometer rubber. | |

| In poking around the internet, I found out that tire groovers can be had for around $70-$80 or so, possibly less if you look in the right place. I know you guys are talking about doing things cheap, but just an idea if you wanted to play around with a lot of different tires. I've never used one, but I guess they have different sized cutters ect. for different applications. I was always thinking about cutting some knobs out of the tires on my simplicity for the heck of it, but I didn't know an easy way to do it. Too bad the tread isn't just a little higher on these turf treads. | |

| Finished one tire this evening. Used the Multimax on it. Weight of the original Turf Tamer: 14.2lbs Weight of the cut Turf Tamer: 11.6lbs. So I removed 2.6lbs from one tire. What I really saved: approximately $150.00 in new tires. I was going to buy a set of Duro HF244's for the Craftsman tractor that actually cuts my lawn. I need something more aggressive than Turf Savers. I tried these 22x11x8 Turf Tamers, but they occasionally rub the deck and feel unstable while side-hilling. | |

| The only thing I cut was the half knob on the outside edges of my turf tamers. I used a standard utility knife to do the job with. No hot knifes or chisels needed. I didn't want to cut much of the tire away. Biggest reason I did this much is so that it will hold onto chains better, once I get some made up. (And yes, I am making my own tire chains out of old car tire chains.) Those chains will go on and stay on. For traction, and for weight. | |

| i found that the easiest and quickest way to cut tires is to sharpen an old butter knife then get it red hot and slice away. my freind and i knocked out a pair in under an hour | |

| An atv tire with deep lugs, no.
But when you don't have the money to spend on tires, these work better than a stock mower tire, or a semi-bald atv tire. | |

| Cut tires also flex a lot better at low psi compared to before with full tread blocks. | |

| Pretty much what I ended up doing with my snow tires on my truck. Who knows how much it helps. I figured there might be some improvement in loose snow. I didn't run it enough to notice one way or the other. I knocked these blocks out with a sharp chisel and a hammer. Just have to be careful not to go too deep and cut into the cords ect. | |
