Here's my Murray 12.38 stamped body freebee. I got it freewith a blown motor and then got a motor free as well, but it's 6hp Quantum motor from a pressure washer. So-far, these are the mods I've done: 4" pulleys. 16x8x8 front wheels with real bearings. Tubed 22x12.5x8 rears welded onto the stock hubs. Tubed Everything not used was eliminated, like the deck and all the controls, lift, clutch etc... Foot throttle, un-governed. Stack. Camo Duct tape seat. Moved shifter to the side of the seat. Front Bash Bar. Front end alignment via Chippewa logging boot.
Future projects include a freshly built 12.5 (see Doc's flatty build) Front and rear lights (fogs and LEDs) Snow Plow Locker rear. (Doc Locker or similar) Cherry Bomb Stack (again thanks Doc for the sick idea)!!! 1 7/8" Ball hitch.
And again, I'm very psyched to be a part of this forum. I've learned a lot, got some great ideas and I will continue to try to contribute knowledge! T-Dub

1983 LT11, Im currently running a 2009 briggs intek OHV straight piped that drives the original peerless 814 5 speed (kinda rare as most of these early LTs seemed to run a 3 speed foote). I need to re-lock the trans as the welds let go a while back. for brakes I welded a slotted rotor to the factory one and mounted a go kart caliper from bmi karts to it. Its been fully re-wired with a push button start and LED taillights. hood ornament off of a 89-91 LTD Crown Vic.

I bought a non-running Murray without a deck for $50 at an auction (bought three LTs) and just bought a CC 2185 with locking rear axle). On the Murray I put a repro carb, adjusted the valves, changed the oil once running, just replaced the relay and 15 amp fuse, a couple of tubes for the tires, new fuel lines, and I have been testing it.
I used it to tow the CC to where I could work on it.
Was testing it to tow a garden trailer and something went on the belt drive. Found out the brakes are not too swell going backwards down a hill. Keep having problems with the parking brake locking.
Once i get it running and driving soon, I am removing the chains I added to the bald tires and switching it over to 4x4 hubs, rims, and ATV tires.
It's main duty will be for my wife to haul firewood into the garage, in case something happens to me, because she has trouble with stairs.
I am using it as a yard dog pulling trailers, maybe some Cat 0 implements. Looks like the previous owner did that. I will probably lock the axle with the spider gear set vs. Lincoln locking it.

Alfredo. The newest addition to the Murray collection. Current project.
The Mountain Murray. Currently in the process of being rebuilt.
Ole Blue. The original mower. Currently retired. Will eventually return in the far off future.
Between me and my brother, we have MANY more Murrays, but those three are the main ones.
You may notice all three share the same rear tires and Alfredo and Ole Blue have the same fronts and in fact the exact same engine. That's because no two mowers have been in one piece at the same point in time let alone functional, lol. One day maybe I'll have two functioning Murrays lol.

My main mower is a Murray. I did an engine swap, oil leaking 14hp Briggs twin to great 19.5hp Briggs twin. I made various cosmetic modifications. I hope I uploaded pics correctly.

Well, my old go to red Murray has been sidelined since the Kohler transplant has been a big hassle. So, it was replaced with a black wide body that I bought for $120 (with a working mower deck) delivered, that I have been using the last few months.
Then the ("L head ?) started giving me trouble. I needed something reliable, in the middle of planting all my seedlings AND splitting firewood for this winter. When they were correctly running, both gave me trouble on a steep hill. It makes maybe an 8 foot drop in 30-50 feet. If I did not start with at least 1/3 a tank of gas, they would be sputtering by the time I got to the top driving slow, pulling a trailer.
Mostly because the carb was sitting higher then the outlet for the gas tank.
So, I decided to buy it a new engine. I bought a B&S 17.50 HP from Carrolstream that has both a pull start and electric start. PLUS, a fuel pump, it has been working great so far. I can't say if it has that much more power then the Kohler disCourage, since the limiting factor has been traction and the ability to stop on a hill going up or down when pulling a trailer.
I need to fabricate a new hood, the old one is about 4 inches too short . So, I will probably do a hood and new bumper together.
It puts out solid voltage too.

Bet that wasn't cheap.

$867.94 with tax - delivered - so far has turned out to be a good decision. They recommend changing the oil and filter every 50 hours, so, I need to get an hour meter. No realistic way to really keep track on paper, though I probably use it maybe an hour a day right now.
