i nneeds some ideas for upgrading craftsman steering

my original steering is stripped out and im putting in steering from a 04 husqvarna garden tractor but its not going according to plan so i need a plan b

Let's begin with plan "A". What is preventing you from using the Husky parts? If you can cut and weld, you really should be able to replicate whatever came off the Husky even if it involves grafting structural components or stampings from it. Pics may be helpful.

"pictures are a 1000 words" They help lol. If its the gears I can suggest doing one of three things .

1. Buy new parts that are broken/stripped

2. Go to the junkyard and get used parts if available.

3. Direct steer. It is often the choice of most people for racers, and a free fix depending on the tools and arts you have.

Here is a thread on how we fixed ours. If you have the plastic parts, you can buy a steering box from an older craftsman, that is all steel, and bolt it right in.
