| how hard is it to make up a mount to mount a car alternator up to an engine and run a belt for it so i can run lights and charge the battery? can i modify a pulley to the top of the flywheel for this purpose or would it cause issues? | |

| Mounting it may be difficult up top because of the blower housing. You'd probably have to trim some tinwork away in order to find solid mounting points. Avoid trimming away too much as you will lose cooling efficiency. Alternatively, you may me able to bracket the alternator to the tractor chassis itself to avoid all that.
What's wrong with your factory charging system, just not enough ampacity?
If you don't drive your rig through too much mud/water, you may also consider bottom-mounting it. If you're really creative and have the space, you might just get away with mounting the face of the alternator flush to the tractor pan, with the pulley sticking through the floor pointing down, and driving it off the PTO that way. | |

| Well doc. Im thinking about the buggy project. I want to run aluminum parts on the motor possibly including the flywheel. If I don't I still would like more amps to run headlights and maybe a spotlight and a winch. And all the amenities of a bigger rig. Including a cooling fan to blow the hot air away from the engine because it will be rear mounted. | |

| Okay- a mower engine. In that case, my previous alternator comments hold true. As far as mounting locations vs. cooling, don't worry about it. As long as the factory cooling system is still good, then forget about the auxiliary fan. At best, it will cool a tiny bit. Likely, it will do nothing at all. At worst, it will disrupt the airflow of the factory cooling system, and make things worse. Remember- your factory cooling system comprises the blower, blower housing, all shrouds (including cylinder head shrouds and the plate UNDER the flywheel, and... Your oil. Right stuff, right amount. | |

| well i was thinking have the pulley mounted about the shroud on the flywheel as to keep from cutting the shroud. im gunna end up leaving the engine stock otherwise now. looking at money. and top speed is gunna stay around 30-40mph probably closer to 30 because it is only mower parts. not 50 mph. and the frame is going to be modified and built on to make it stronger to withstand the speed and beating | |

| also because as you said in chat i need to work on my welding skills anyways and this was my plan in the beginning was to build this before i built a bigger more powerful buggy. that way this had a solid frame already that just needed beefing | |
