| Did some parts gathering yesterday. I have a few motorcycle parts around. Scrounged up a couple radiators and cooling fans from some old Hondas. I also got a 63 Amp Delco 10si alternator off a CL ad for $10 that had been rebuilt with a new regulator. | |

| Yesterday, I was plowing 8" of snow with my Murray. It was working great... until I missed a shift and dumped the clutch. It grinded gears for a split second and then caught 4th gear from a standstill. BANG! I hatched my transaxle.
So, Today I un-buried my spare transaxle from under a snowbank. It's thawing out now in the garage. Tomorrow I shall rebuild!
I still don't even know what number these Peerlesses are that go in my Murray. I'll find the number tomorrow and maybe even post a pic of the damage.
I also plan on welding some washers into the slot that I made for the shifter so I don't get in between gears ever again. The stock shifter slot was smooth so that's how I made the new one. Big Mistake! Live and Learn I guess...

| Here's the damage. Nice hole in the Diff carrier area... Tore all the teeth off the input pinion. So, I had a spare 920 and I just moved the transmission gears and axles over to the new case. I used the spare spider gears to make a locker. Works awesome now. I just need to be careful when shifting gears from now on! | |

| You busted that trans with an open diff? Going to the locked side now, heh heh. I need to get a plow for mine too. It would be nice to use for light snow dustings. | |

| Well, after rebuilding the 920 and driving it for a while, I noticed it popping and skipping. Time to take it apart again! Wish I had Doc here to share an adult everage and some knowledge haha! Last time I had it apart, I didn't know that I needed to set the clearance between the Input Bevel Gear and the Ring Gear. So, this is what happened.... I went to replace the Ring gear and it wouldn't go together. The Ring gear is .080" thicker. Here's a pic of the damaged Ring Gear and the new one that I have to modify so it fits. Stay tuned... | |

| Ha. Nice.
I've been slowly taking apart an MTD/Yardman "Special Edition" that I got for helping my friend build his off road mower. It has a hydro trans that seems to be stuck, but what I'm after is the 18hp twin.
I've actually owned two MTD mowers previously, that I used for cutting grass. I must say that this is one of the most complicated and poorly executed designs I've come across. There is so much extra junk associated with the deck and it's up/down movement. The steering is a poor design also. It turns left better than it turns right. At least I now have lots of extra scrap metal to build with... (picture coming later this evening)

| Both surface grinders in the shop are busted. I'm going to have to try to take a chip with a carbide tool bit and hope it cuts, but isn't case hardened. I played with shims for hours last night to try to get it to work, but it just won't without machining. Cross your fingers for me! haha | |

| Well, the gear wouldn't fit the lathe chuck without major fixturing, so I opted to fix the surface grinder. Taking off .080" in .0025" cuts is a P.I.T.A.! Here's a pic of the front side... And a pic of the surface ground back side. Hope it fits now! And I won't forget to set the clearance between the gears this time... No more spare parts = no room for mistakes. | |

| I sorta like the look of a rat mower without the hood B! Nice ride! But is that the one with all the design flaws? Looks like the steering is goofy as heck! | |

| MTD Explosion! The hydro appears functional after unsticking the brake, but the wheels are rusted to the axles. I'll have to split the trans. to get the wheels off. Thinking about using the frame to make a trailer. It's the right width. | |

| Deep-sixed the weenie little lawn and garden battery (MII), and cut a big hole in the fender pan right under the seat. Sunk a marine battery box in there, and dropped in a 625A Deep Cycle Marine battery in there. Wired 'er up. Got juice? | |

| Stretch and I started working on the Wheel Horse last night. Stripped deck equipment off of it, changed the oil in engine and transmission, and looked at front axle and floorboard options.
Also did some test fitting / planning for my double seat for Chaos.
