That's similar to mine, and yes it id subject to getting wet, and bogging,

A simple shield would help that. Use a bigger can and cut the top off, trim the sides to the height of the filter.
drill some drain holes in the bottom. adapt the bottom to whatever you are using for a filter base.

For my use, since I don't get a whole lot of mud access. I don't really worry about it.

Ya I have a ton of water and was debating a small coffee can or some sheet metal to make a box

Did you have any problems ? I was always concerned about water seeping into the carb around the butterfly's.

a little bit of seepage general you will burn off. i know i have had water splash over my engine and flooded the carb and it still kept running because it wasnt to much to kill my engine.

Well I found out today when I went to ride my mower that was sunk completely under water, that it got water in the oil and had a ton of blow by so now I have to drain it out change it and hope I didn't damage anything when I ran it today  

i thought you drained it already. any time it goes under you have to drain it. oil too. becuase it likes to seep through the rings

You'll need snorkels on the crankcase vents, and trans vent

So I figured out today that after flooding my tractor it is pretty much done I have a small fraction of power, it won't run steady and has a ton of blow by

did u take the sump pan off and drain it completely?

oil pan. sorry. the bottom casing of the engine. itll hold water because you can never drain it completely unless you remove it

No I didn't remove the engine to do that

it wont help the blow by obviously. just maybe help the oil splash inside. its really easy as long as you drain the oil first and soak the bolts with wd40 or penetrating oil spray

also. the blow by you might just need a new spark plug or magneto to create a cleaner spark to burn the fuel? if its that simple. idk what else it could be

Might be but I already changed the oil and drained extra out but I'll check tomorrow

yea id probably jus tremove the oil pan and make sure no water is in the crankcase. and check your oil while you drain it for signs of water

make sure if u take the oil pan ofd your engine is upside down so the cam and everything dont fall out
