Hey guys, it's been a long time since I posted on here, I came across a modification that could help countless people avoid dealing with a bunch of electrical issues, or expensive batteries. It's pretty simple to do, it takes less than an hour to do, and you probably already have the parts to do it. I plan on doing this to all of my off road tractors as a failsafe, or back-up means of getting it started.

My motor had a setup like that from the factory except the starter/generator was a belt to the motor so you just remove the belt and wham. pull start. Wat too much compression for it to actually be useful though.

Technically, you could do away with the battery wiring, solenoids, and starter. more space to add something else, or cut a few lbs. Ive seenpull starts on a few videos on YT, but this is a clear cut How to video.

Good idea, but do you think this could be done to a b&s 20hp v-twin?

Ooooh, I needed this. Was gonna try to rig up a recoil but seeing this and knowing I have a few extra decks I should be able to do this easily.

Junkstar raises two very good points, by dropping the battery, wiring and starter you probably save yourself around 30 to 40 pounds, which is a lot when you're sinking in mud. The other point being that nothing is altered so you can always return it back to original condition. I am going to try to straighten mine a little bit the next time I'm out there messing around with it; it doesn't look like it'll take much. and you want to know a truly ironic thing? this is the only mower that has an actual working battery on it. Every other riding mower I have has got a dead battery..... I guess that's pretty sad. Hahaha

Dont worry, I only have 1 good working battery too. I need to bring my other one to NAPA and swap it.

Your pulley didnt look too off center though. At least not in the video. It looked a tiny bit bent though.

Don't tell Chopperhed but I'm using a 33 amp sealed lead battery for mine because i don't have a proper battery. Not the best of ideas but it works.

Don't tell me WHAT?

No skin off my nose if you want to run a tiny battery.

However, scrounging can be very benificial at times.

I scrounged the batteries I have in my Fords.
One was pulled from a car when 1 cell came up weak. Plenty strong for a GT.
plus half a dozen others.

Battery safety is a different subject.

I use sealed gel cell batteries because they are waterproof, and don't vent hydrogen. Very handy in a marine or snow situation.

It has nothing to do with size or anything else.

I have model aircraft that use LiPo batteries. They will pop and burn if over charged or over disharged.

Proper procedures means I don't have to worry about them burning the house down.
