| hey guys! im new to the site and known on youtube as 485yamaha, i have two tractors currently, an 86 noma canadiana 11hp briggs(of course), and an 85 sears craftsman 18hp briggs( my beater) i want to mod both for mudding and speed but for now i want to leave alone the 18hp.
i just opened up the engine on the 11 hp and it squeels loud when i start it, i think its the starter mechanism but im probably gettin a 19.5 from my buddy for it, im thinkin of puttin a 3 or 4 inch pulley on the rear and leavin the front alone, and i wanna put a gas pedal, but my clutch is on the right side -.- so i dont know how thats gonna work. just seeing if anyones got any pointers and tryin to introduce myself 85craftsman

| Welcome abord - actually youd want a slightly larger pulley on the front - otherwise itd be a near 1:1 ratio. If its for trail/mud/crawling you actually dont want a whole lot of speed - brakes should be an important part of the build, nothing like climbing a hill and rolling backwards......
I use an old agway for mud/trail riding - i put bigger tires on it, i changed the pullies slightly ( 3 speed that was agonizingly sloww) - running a 4" on the motor and a 8" on the back - dont want super sonic speeds- just a lil more oomph.
You can get around the clutch pedal by using a throttle on the steering wheel or mounting it on the other side - would be a lil weird to drive until you get used to it.
I have a couple tractors with both a separete clutch and brake pedals - thats a lil weird to get used to.

| I must say that i am pleasantly surprised that there are other crazy people that share the same love of taking a lawn mower and making it go places that it was never suppose to go.
Hi my name is Daniel I have been building crazy stuff from lawn mowers ever since i was a kid. I will get some pictures of my lawn tractor up tomorrow. I look forward to meeting every one and checking out your builds and showing off mine.

| New member here guys. Got the wild hair to build a offroad mower after watching some of fearlessfronts vids on youtube. Im shooting for something I can take on the trails, not so much a mud mower, but if the need should arise, I want it to be more than able to handle some slop. My starter mower will be a '02 Murray widebody 12.5 horse 40 incher with the 5 speed Peerless. I bought this mower brand new & pulled the deck off of it when I got it home from Wally-World. Its only job was pulling a little lawnmower trailer to collect rocks from the yard after we built our house. Its never cut a blade of grass in its life. Its just been sitting in the shop for the last couple of years, so I figured what the hell. Lets do this. Been collecting parts mowers like mad the last few weeks. I've restored a couple of cars/trucks & I know for a fact there's nothing like having donor vehicles. So far i've got the following mowers for parts: All are complete mowers, engine, trans, deck, etc. John Deere 160- Kawasaki FB460v (12'ish HP) < steering & front end are BEEFY! Murray Ultra 17.5 Tecumseh OHV175- Hydro Craftsman LT1500- 17.5 Intek OHV- Peerless Anyways, that's my story. Thanks for havin' me. | |

| Welcome aboard. You've got a good supply of parts going. The Deere should have an 800 series Peerless, and the Kawi is a good engine but replacement parts are pricey. The Murray Ultra is good for chassis parts; and I'm sure if you wanted to you could sell the transaxle (and the Teccy engine too). The Craftsman has good engine, decent transaxle & is built pretty well too. Spare parts always come in handy! | |

| Yup, I'm new. Living up here in Edmonton Alberta
Just started a new project.
Have a 98 Mastercraft (MTD) with the 15.5 B & S motor that I got for free. I used it as a tow tractor for moving stuff around the yard.
I've since picked up a quad to do that so don't need the tractor anymore.
I've also got the remains of a yamaha warrior quad sitting here.
Can you see where this is going?
