Has anybody put an altenator on a lawn tractor?

Hi everybody I've got a question, has anyone installed an alternator in there monster mower because I'm doing one and I'm in need of some help, I would like any help or advice?

ok cool how did you do it i have mine facing down and i dont know if i have it turning in the right direction cause it drains the battery

What type of alternator you using? EG brand name,model... ...NOT just one off a car...

I thought of doing this too but i also wasnt sure about it, because i have a spare.

Ive herd older chevy alternators work good - because of the one wire hook up and internal voltage regulator - you have to have it mounted the same way as it was on a vehicle to work ( ie: if it turns counter clockwise , then has to be mounted to spin counter clockwise) .

If its a verticle shaft motor, could be mounted either on top ot bottom of the motor - but underneath itd get more abuse from mud, ect - on top you could adapt a pulley from the flywheel to run the alternator.
