| Ok, so what do you guys think;
I want to build a V4, or V6 lawn tractor. I've seen either V8 lawn tractors that don't go fast, or ones that hardly resemble a tractor. I want to build one that is fast (I can use it as a car), and that still resembles a tractor.
I was thinking car engine, transmission, rear axle, and rear brakes. Not sure about steering (may want power with all the added weight, but that would be complicated).
Oh yeah, and I live off of a $3 allowance.
Sound do-able? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

| start saving your money - youll need to. First i would get dimensions of the motor/drivetrain you plan on using , then build the chassis and then the sheetmetal to fit. Itll definitely need to be planned out. Might be easier to fit a 4 cylender instead, BUT ive seen a tech school drop a 350 into a GT JD super clean like it was factory option, including the deck. Another factor is what type of motor, the old skool carb motor would be easier to hook up ( no electronics or computers , plus would need tweeking for different tire sizes, ect). If you can find a cheep used car that isnt street legal ( due to rust) but runs/drives , then that would be the best option for having everything needed. No matter what you build - it wont ever be street legal - specially for insurance/DMV ( most states require insurance/registrations/ inspections). Only sort of thing ive seen street legal is a 'road legal' golf kart and a 'road legal go kart' http://www.scooterdepot.us/150cc-go-kart-sand-cart-4stroke-dune-buggy-for-sale-p-647.htmlhttp://buggyworx.com/street-legal-informationIve been told by a police officer, lawntractors arent street legal, even modifed ones.... | |

| Wow that's alot, I'll try to address everything here. Yes, I'm saving now, I've got $16! I'm planning on getting help from my Grandpa, who's an engineer, and my best friend, who's a car nut. So between the three of us, I think we can get some pretty decent blueprints drawn up. I'd like to get a 4cyl, smaller, and lighter too. I have no engine crane, and I don't want to have to stregnthen the frame unless I really have to. Carbeurated would be preferable for me. Cheaper too. Anyone know an older 4cyl rear wheel drive car? About steet legality, I saw a quad that had some extra lights added, and the guy had gotten a motorcycle title for it. So it was legaly a motorcycle. I was debating asking my local DOT, but I can't even get a liscense for a few years. Anyone know if I will need suspension? I live on a dirt road, and if all goes well, this thing should hit car speeds. | |

| Let me get this right. You have no money, tools, or skills, and want to build a car? Good luck. Save your money and buy a beater to drive.
If you want to try and build a tractor/mower for fun, have at it. If you have access to tools and parts, better for you, if not, it will be expensive to do.

I dunno what NH labor laws are, but you might be limited in hours since you are a minor, so dont expect too much. But a $3 income wont get you far, not to be mean or anything. Head Forum Administrator ** Chat Moderator ** Facebook Page AdminATLTF Facebook Page ** Chatbox ** How To Upload Pictures

| Yes, I know. I can mow lawns an stuff, and I can be a bagger at Marketbasket once I turn 14. Not too much fun but it's better than nothing. | |

| Its possible to do it, just wont be overnite - people stuff V8's in snowmobiles, atv's and even snowblowers, but even with a 4cylender, the chassis would need to be strong/reinforced- the extra weight would tear it apart.

| I saw this little tiny Toyota one, and there was a Dodge Neon (yuck) engine and transmisson bundle that was tiny.
I'm probably gonna put an ad on Craigslist, and see if anyone wants to donate thier junk car.
