| When I dissassembled the MTD I'm working on I had to break the bolt that held the steering column on, so I welded a bolt on it(couldnt drill through it, broke bit(s). After reassembling the steering column I had to use a lot of washer to bolt it up. Thats the back story heres the problem: Every time I steer it will work great for a couple turns; then it starts slipping. Any help is more than appreciated, thanks. Heres a pic if anybody needs it: [img] [/img] Sorry if the pic is blurry! | |

| Tighten up your gear thats on the body. Try moving it closer to the steering column as well. These MTD steering setups really suck in being that they are always too loose. Look up a direct steering setup and see about making one of those. Head Forum Administrator ** Chat Moderator ** Facebook Page AdminATLTF Facebook Page ** Chatbox ** How To Upload Pictures

| MTD steering gears ( from the steering shaft) are designed to be set one way - adding washers is probably misalligning them. Could be theyre worn ( depending on abuse its gotten) - best bet is to either replace them or go with direct steer.
I own several MTD's and really havent had any steering issues other then loose parts. | |
