Hey guys, popping in to say hi again (I saw that post in TMAM thread Richie lol). I meant to update Alfredo’s thread a while back but I just haven’t had the time or will. Seems as though I either wrench on the mowers and don’t post or I post and don’t wrench lol. Anyway I’m in my last semester of Automotive so that’s keeping me nice and busy. Got some updates for most of the projects too so I’ll be updating that soon hopefully. Currently sitting in the office of the Auto department so don’t expect to see any posts tonight lol.

So anyways, I need head gaskets for this Onan. Dont know if Im retarded but Im having a crap time finding any. I found some thats spose to fit 16-20hp, but not this 19.9hp unit. This unit takes a 10 bolt pattern gasket, and all Im finding are 9 bolt.

No offense @TheBeal but you need to step up your game man! It only took me 1 minute to find out it's an industrial engine from either a generator or a genny/welder combo and another couple to find this:

***edit*** I was writing while @MightyRaze was posting! Lol
LOL, and I'm sick over here..... I'll be honest, I have an onan that needs a rebuild that came out of Dirty Rat originally. Good engine just need a simple overhaul. I was familiar with the site. $16 not bad. WOW the one I need is $16.50. Last I looked 5 years ago it was $65-$80 a pair. Maybe time to overhaul the old onan.

The Onans don't seem to be very popular except amoungst collectors and purists, there's a Onan guru in my area that says their biggest weakness is the carburetor so he's actually developed his own adapter plate to install Nikki carbs on them and says it's makes a world of difference!

The DD carb does suck. There is another carb, not sure the model, it seems a lot better.
@TheBeal looks to have the larger air breather, he may have the non DD carb but the newer nikki.

Yep I had an onan 20hp and that thing was a pig to start, guaranteed would not fire without brake kleen or gas down the carb. Literally started like a diesel,I realized after I bought the tractor the guy that sold it to me warmed it up before he dropped it off, bit of a dirty trick, he right clean ripped me off, the whole tractor was full of suprises from the starter to the deck, absolute POS.

Heres what I have to work with, in all its needs cleaned, crusty, musty glory.
So, onto another engine project...briggs oppys, gaskets should pretty much be one size fits all? Not sure the numbers for the particular engine Im working on, all I really know its a 19hp crank. The tins with the numbers are all MIA.

Ya that's one of them troublesome carbs he showed me... basically said that they're fine until they're not and eventually won't hold a tune or run right no matter how much dicker with them. He's also very adament that his Nikki carb setup is much better than even a perfect working Onan carb.
Briggs and Stratton gasket set #495868 supercedes all earlier Oppy gasket kits and is supposed to work on all, new and old.

That looks like whats on my Sears.
Whats this other batter carb you guys are talking about? Is it a bolt on replacement? Im not opposed to looking for a better option, but I dont really want to mess around with gov linkages.
