So I have a poulan garden tractor I was really bouncing the idea Of a diesel swap like a Kubota or something the front grill is plenty tall And wide enough for a small radiator, my only problem is The peerless 820 how could I make this work? I would love to roll coal As I throw mud .
this is my kinda guy lol, all I say is go for it, make sure you get a big one tho, the kubota 3-cyls are usually about the price of a diesel engine 4 times the size, you could try swapping in a diesel from a truck, duramax would obviously be best but probably way too expensive. I know it's been done with a Small block chevy, I see no reason why a v8 diesel wouldn't work. Also stay away from the ford 6.0 if you go that route (I'm sure everyone knows why)

@TechnoChicken i was thinking of a smaller diesel that will fit under the hood , i want it to look factory, and yes the 6.0 were built in a factory, a bomb factory lol, if i was going to do it on this level a 6.5 would be my choice , see what im thinking is a 2 or 3 cyl diesel and somehow make it work with the oem peerless 820 cause whats better than riding your mower into town to run errands and rolling coal at the same time, well in the words of an oldies song, ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN! i know without a doubt even a small diesel will get me to 55-60 but how do i do it without grenading the transaxle at highway speeds

I would imagine, and I could be wrong, but since those diesels have so much torque, you should be able to just use a go-kart axle and a torque converter?

@TechnoChicken i could see how that could work with that layout
run the engine flywheel to a cvt run the chain to a 90 deg gear box and shaft drive to another 90 deg gear box out to wheels , but what cvt would handle that?

I didn't think about that, the other issue is the clutch wouldn't work as well under the lower rpms
