You've heard of people being born with a silver spoon...
Well, that's not me, but I was fortunate to be born with silver multimeter leads.
I was a tinkerer from an early age, learned some electronics and programming when I was 8 to ten years old, and had a blast being raised in a Maytag home appliance center. I liked working with my hands so much that that's pretty much all I told my Army recruiter, and after seeing my aptitude scores, he set me up to be an Abrams Tank Turret Mechanic.
I had a lot of fun during my 20 year career, whether working my arse off as a young mechanic, teaching new recruits the skills necessary to be successful mechanics, building advanced skills in mid-careerists, or managing curriculum and instructor development for Abrams and Bradley mechanics.
Now I wrench for fun. In 2016 my eldest brother passed away, leaving a well-worn mower behind that has become my most useful toy. Family and friends think I need a 4-wheeler or a real tractor, but those just wouldn't be as much fun for me, as I really enjoy polishing the old MTD turd.
