shifters that dont rub the belt?

well im working with a 2nd gen craftsman frame and making a first gen body fit and neither shifter will work how would you guys go about making the deck handle shift a 6 speed spicer? any ideas?

There are some, that don't seem to hang out now that have done just that.  They grind all the notches out except the ones that would throw it into reverse on accident.  You could weld a tab on it and run a rod.  Or you could just add an idler to keep the belt off the shifter.  LOL.

well i cant run the idler as i am attempting to run the stock belt for simplicity but i just wanna know how i would route it to use it that way

I will try to look later when I have more time but look at the mowrons (Stretch and Rainbowboxer).  There is someone else in the forum that did it too.

Could you post a pic of the transmission and shifter hookup? I have an idea, but not sure what your transmission looks like.

You are welcome.  I knew the haspin guys had that on their craftsmans.  I just had to follow that bunny trail.  

I have a slap shifter built off the deck lift like fearless and the mowrons. Linkage runs low below the belt and to the transaxle. With a peerless 930 the shift shaft is low which works. My mst206 came from a fender shift Murray and has a super tall shift shaft. When that trans used to be in it I had to run the linkage up above the belt. With a 3” pulley on the back the belt use to just barely clear the tall shaft on the mst series. But everything clears fine with the 930. A lot of variables come into play as to what front and rear pulleys as well as idler pulleys and what not. The left hand side (sitting on seat) is the tight side of the belt. So you would not want any spring tensioners on that side. Fixed idler would be alright as long as it wouldn’t pull the belt crazy off course. Every time you let the clutch fly that belt wants as straight of a shot to the from the back to the front as possible.

Here is the setup I have on my second tractor. Cut original lift rod off and welded a piece of straight stock on. Made a taller shifter to clear the belt

hey my tractor has the same pully ratio as yours @LAWN MOWER MUDDER and i am building my other tractor to use a stock belt size with a pully flip so the last thing to figure out is the clutch and shifter and now i have ideas and i am prepaired to work on my tractor sometime next week or even this weekend
