okay, I decided what the hay lets join the build off! I will first introduce you fellers to the rig, I call it SCRAPY, mostly because it's just scrap, worn, and beat on sears sheet metal. the focus or idea for this one is to be more orientated towards rally but still a woods tractor. (I am gonna have to apologize in advance to mighty I just realized my tractor kinda is based in the same direction as yours whoops.) anyways this build is going to get or already has- custom frame - done random peerless transaxle I found 14 hp Briggs ratty sears sheet metal either a craftsman cast front axle or straight axle not sure? whatever tires I can find for cheap or free
the end goal for this is to get it done for little to no money at all. anyways here are the pics

@Nevadablue ya they are coated with something I got it in a 8ft chunk that sure what it was for though. Guessing something electric? @Budget_gokart thanks I actually had this build envisioned in my head for quite some time !
okay, another update, I got scrappy into the garage and notched my frame for my front axle hopefully the craftsman cast-iron front axle will do! for fun, I decided to throw on some snapper fenders and my old cub 76 hoods I think she looks pretty cool! but I still like the sears sheet metal looking for any input on the sheet metal. hopefully, more progress it was a struggle working in -15 degree weather today. anyways here are some pics.

You should really do a mid engine like the vintage mini mowers had that would be really cool and you could set the steering up like a wheel horse RJ or race mowers do
thanks! I was actually thinking about going mid-engine mostly for the simple belt route but would also be a disadvantage if I ran it ungoverned and obliterate the flywheel the pros outweigh the cons so I might be going with mid-engine!

make sure theres room for a clutch! and give your self space for future gearing changes and a scatter sheild is a must for ungoverned builds! man now that i think about it if i had a spare transaxle with side imput id LOVE to do one witha 212 for an endurance tractor lol
thanks, yea I probably will have to do some shielding. i think i will be able to get away with a clutch in the space i have I was actually thinking of finding a centrifugal belt clutch but decided it probably wouldn't work too hot in the water.
okay, not much of an update but I did get something done! I threw the spindles back into the axle and threw on some tires I think she's starting to look like something next up is welding the front axle in for more support and also welding in the rear axle hangers.

@MN mudder as soon as it warms up here in Indiana i'm hoping to find a complete snow blower for cheap so i can get the tires and use the engine for a go-kart project for my grandson. (two for one special) lol
@diddie ya snowblowers around here are dirt cheap. free tractors on the other hand not so much haha. I did get some progress done yesterday with some mockup of my motor and seat let's just say this thing is gonna be a nut roaster! it starting to look like a vertical shaft wheelhorse RJ in my opinion.

just say shes the winter tractor throw skis on the front LOL also a vert shaft RJ would be possible to build if i had a spare wheel horse hood and metal seat pan
@Budget_gokart thanks I actually built a snowblower tracked toro 910 which was rad! it had arctic cat kitty cat skis in the front. I am still on the fence about sheet metal but a wheelhorse hood grill and fenders would look pretty neat. here's a picture of that ole toro

@Brianator thanks, ya I think a scatter shield will need to be made and I will probably be running this one governed to protect myself from flying flywheel shrapnel! @Nevadablue thanks ya miss that machine it was slow and very in cable of anything more than 3 inches of snow but she lives on now as my main go fast mower.
Well, I guess if I did something on the tractor I probably should update it even if it's not the prettiest! shield your eyes fellers I got a Lil crazy with the stick welder tonight, I decided hey what the heck lets burn in those trans brackets so that's what I did haha. url=https://servimg.com/view/20374883/75][/url] but hey she did penantrate

once you strike an arc build a pool till yu can see red hot and very very very slowly make u shapes between the two peices of metal very very small and keep it steady and make sure your pushing while you do it sounds complicated but just watch some welding tutorials i had a welding class so i can lay dimes with stick also your welder should have the settings for that thickness of metal i think your weld was too slow or ttoo cold
I am not one to judge those welds but, if your welder is too cold like @budget_gokart said it won't bead properly, it will just kinda clump into several large clumps
thanks ya I am guessing the fact that the steel was very cold, and going too fast with the welder caused my issues .@Budget_gokart unfortunately welding classes here are for 10th grade and up so for now I am out of luck. so for now I am self-teaching myself.
