Picked up a Sears/Craftsman off FB buy and sell for 100$ has broken gas tank, 3/4 tires don’t hold air due to sitting and dry rot. New to the whole mower angle, BUT I’ve always done my own vehicle repairs / house repairs, refuse to pay for someone else’s labour when the great inter webs can teach you anything with a little dedicated research. The craftsman is equipped with a 14.5 ohv IC Gold engine, Peerless mst 206 trans. I’ve stripped it down to frame pressure washed it and is ready for my build to start once I figure out the best route I am going to take. I’ve “pre rigged the wiring” for push to start and kill switch so when I put the engine back on it’s a quick easy connect the wires and done. Looking into doing the Doc Locker on the peerless as research has informed its the safest most durable route. Also I have cleaned the carb changed the oil in engine, most likely going to do valve adjustment before I try to fire it up, ordered a Kevlar belt (so when that arrives I can get to rigging up the clutch right away. I do hope to re enforce the front axle / steering, I will be doing the brass bushing upgrade as well as the “poor mans power steering via thrust needle bearings. Gonna need more info on ideas for enforcing the front axle though, I haven’t researched that yet. Basically my biggest issue right now is finding tires. Most likely gonna chop the rear stock rims and drill in x4 holes to be able to mount atv tires. Oh and I also chopped the stock muffler, haven’t figured out what I’m doing to re route it yet, but I kept about a foot of pipe from the connection off the manifold. Look forward to posting some pics with my build for everyone to critique when I finally finish her. Cheers!
