PostSubject: Westwood t1200 fluid drive   drive - Westwood t1200 fluid drive Icon_minitimeDecember 31st 2020, 10:56 pm

I recently purchased a second hand westwood t1200 built some time between 89 and 93, it hasnt been started for several years but appears to be in very good condition.
I have downloaded as many manuals as i could locate but none can assist me.
I have been able to get the engine running but have no forward or reverse when selected yet the belts appear to be ok.
I located under the seat a cannister with pbr on the top which is empty and am wondering if this takes brake fluid as the clutch / brake does not seem to be working.
Or is this container for the fluid drive and if so what oil does it require.

That should be the transmission fluid. The clutch is mechanical. It works by putting slack on the belt. Also check the linkage on the speed selector. Not sure if that will be a lever or pedal, but make sure it’s all intact all the way to the trans with minimal slop in the bushings/pivot points.

If the engine is original and a briggs like I think it is, look at the numbers stamped into the shroud right above the spark plug. There will be a “model” “type” and “code” the first two digits of the “code” will be the year the engine was manufactured. If the engine is an ‘89 for instance, odds are the tractor itself is an ‘89 or ‘90 model

Hopefully this helps!

I cannot locate a westwood plate on the chassis but from craftsmanquad19 description the briggs and stratton looks like it was built in 92. Code is 9208044D.
I have been able to source a manual on the motor.
I will post a pic when able as i dont have access to the machine today.
If you lift the seat up and remove a small tray in the compartment under the seat there are two small offset pulleys with a belt which runs the mechanised roller and brush catcher which came with the tractor and in the same compartment is the plastic recepticle with the black pbr lid. This container is empty.
If the brakes are mechanical then this must be for the fluid drive, so best not to fill it with brake fluid till i can find out, hey.

Wonder if it is a Tuff Torq transaxle.  K36 or K46?  That's about all I can dig up.

From what I remember, the tuff torq gear transaxles aren’t very good. No idea if the hydrostatic transaxles are any good though. I’m assuming there’s no markings on the cap? Is there a maximum and minimum fill line on the reservoir? If it’s completely dry the damage may already be done. Or my worry would be where did the fluid go? There’s gotta be a leak somewhere unless someone drained it out

Oh also, the first two digits on the “model” number will be the displacement in cubic inches. If it’s a single cylinder it’ll probably be a 28

Not relevant, but thought I’d throw it out there
