Front - Front axle camber Empty
PostSubject: Front axle camber   Front - Front axle camber Icon_minitimeMarch 31st 2019, 3:26 am

Anyone else notice that the stock front axle camber is a disadvantage for a faster than stock machine? All factory machines have a positive to neutral camber. I've got mine geared to run between 5 and 35 governed. At 35 the positive camber is likely to cause a roll over. Anyone else face this upgrade? A slight negative camber is better at speed from my experience playing with dirt track cars. Anyone ever change it and what seems to be the majic negative camber number? I know the race mower guys take advantage of upgrading this area, at least those that are competitive. I want to build a new front axle I'm just looking for a steer in the right direction.

Yeah some tractors have some pretty bad positive camber, butI think a lot just have 0°. I suppose one could try and correct it, but really the best option would probably be to build a custom front axle with much better steering geometry in general. Caster, camber, KPI, etc.

Well that's what I'm doing is building a new axle to ditch that factory camber. I was just looking to see if anyone new a good angle to start with. I don't want to build more than one unless I'm building another mud mower. Which I eventually will.

Oh whoops, LOL. Sorry, I completely missed ay the end where you said you're making a new axle.

I think for an all around off-roader 0° of camber is what most guys do, but for an actual track racer it might be different. I've never done that type of thing before so unfortunately I couldn't give you a number.

For just a general off-road tractor though I would say 0° of camber, and maybe 7° - 10° of positve caster would go a long way in the handling department.

I’m not great with front axle geometry yet, but I would try to build a little adjustability into it. I’ll let everyone else chime in on where to start though

I'm going to go with alliskid21 suggestion. It falls in line with how a sport quad is setup and makes the most sense. Some degree of adjustability would be nice but I need to figure out a good way to do that.
