Hey guys, this is my first post here so bear with me.

So I got these two Murray widebodys for free in a package deal. One had a blown 12.5 hp b&s and the other had a seized 15.5 hp b&s. We replaced the blown 12.5 with a new one and sold it. But on the other hand, the 15.5 happend to be deckless, and it turns out that it was a mouse nest between the coil
and the flywheel that caused it to seize. $50 later, it runs and drives (ish). So now it's to be a mud mower. Thinking about entering it into the build-off.

Here's some pics of it torn down (i didn't get any pics of it before i started to work on it. Sorry.)...






Here's the plan...

-New orange paint

-Reinforced frame, hood, and steering column

-New ATV tires

-Recoil pull start

-Snorkel

-Gas pedal

-LED headlights & tail lights

-Brush gaurd

-Locked transmission

-Pulley swap

-Catch can

-Suspension

-Exhaust

-Hand brake

-Rear gaurd/rack

And a few other small things.


So I think the plan is going to be a $500 budget, enter it in the build-off, run it in my towns Christmas parade and sell it for a profit. Hopefully this will be a fun build.

Next step, find a place to get welding done.

Basically you can have an admin@"MightyRaze" move your thread to the builoff entry section in the 2019 build off section. You’re missing a sign with the password in your pictures but you’re pretty much good to go.

I’d say if you realistically have the time and the budget to build it by the end of the contest then do it!

Nice rig!  Not sure you need a catch can unless the rings are bad or the pcv is messed up or something.

I've heard about how catch cans aren't really needed but I can smell a little bit of oil burning in the exhaust on the mower I run (the one in the profile picture) and its kind of annoying considering it has a brand new head gasket. I've never tried one yet so if it doesn't work then it's in the trash it goes.

As for the build off it all depends on the money made from selling riding mowers this year and how to get it to wherever the build off takes place. I'll see if I can get the pics.

I threw mine in this years Build-Off....

IMO the catch can wo'nt help you with the Oil burn, since most of the times the oil burn is caused by too less Oil changes and more wear at the cylinder and rings...

U should disconnect the PCV hose and look if it's puking tons of white smoke or oil out, and then I would get 1, otherwise not.. I never had the problem that my 11HP Flathead puked Oil in the Air Filter, and I ran it 3/4 year with too much Oil, and I ripped the mower around lots of sharp corners and stuff...

I would try it without, and when it's impossible to live without, get 1!

BTW a good life hack for the Exhaust smoke (burnt Oil smells so tasty... JK ) is to run sidepipes under the Floorboards or exit in the Back, or U go the good old Stack...



that's how I did it with mine, since it burns a tiny bit of Oil under hard Load, and U don't really smell it when riding...

the build off is not in a certain place it is on this forum. as i understand you post your pics of your progress and finished product here and others on here judge you. that's the way i understand it.

If thats how it works then I don't know why I can't enter it, we'll see.

Alright so if I can't fit the catch can into the budget then it's out of the plan. Besides I'm expecting the budget to knock off more than just a catch can.

Nice! It needs to be this year's password, goulash. That shows the admins that you didn't just build this 6 months ago and keep the pics.

We only ask that you update your build off thread at least once a month.  That's 9 posts minimum start to finish if you started at open.
