| Thanks. Yea the OHVs are pretty tough, I haven't abused mine too hard only because it has a helicoil. But soon as I change the head, look out. The only time (besides online) I've ever heard of a blown OHV was my friends 14.5 HP. Then again I've never had a 12.5 that was not a powerbuilt. B&S put a weaker connecting rod into the powerbuilt for some reason, probably for cheaper manufacturing. But for that reason I try to stay away from the powerbuilts as much as I can. I haven't had any experience with the normal 12.5 so I guess my opinion only applys to powerbuilts. And yes, FF does abuse his pretty hard. | |

- I have a fleet of OHVs, I like them allot better than the flat heads for power and ease of working on. I have not seen a 12.5 OHV of that vintage either, only the flat heads. I have a newer intek style one, but all the 12.5s I had were flattys.
I never worked on a Single OHV before, hope it's easy! - Murraymountain wrote:
- I know right. I didn't even know 12.5 OHVs existed until now, except on a tecumseh.
Same reason I like the OHVs. Strong, powerful, easy repairs (not that flattys aren't), and of course, they sound better (no offense to the flatty fanatics). Just got some Lit Steel Pipe outta the Scrap Bin @ Work & want to build a Stack for it!

| Yea that is interesting. And yes they are very easy to work on. The only real difference between the two are the valves. Just be sure to check and/or adjust them at least once a year. (Top valve is .004 and bottom is .005). A stack would look pretty cool on it. I was going to put 1 on mine until someone said something about if it flips it could damage the head.
How about putting a little flap on the top of the stack like the old tractors have... just an idea.

| Well, it was 8°C outside today and no wind so I decided to use the 1 1/2 hrs after work to strip the Widebody down, since I didnt got that done at weekend! everything is pretty rusty, but WD40 did a great Job! Didnt needed to take the Angle Grinder out, thanks WD40 & the Impact! Need to figure out how to reinforce the frame next, & clean it up so I can weld it, and get me some box steel! have Angle Iron and flat stock lying around, but IDK how well I can reinforce that C channel! The Pulley is rusted solid to the MSTs input shaft, so I sprayed WD40 on it! | |

| Awesome. Looks just like my murray. Rusty, dirty, and torn to bits and pieces lol. You'll definitely need frame reinforcements, those murray frames are weak as crap. My brother cracked and broke his frame in several places. Had to brace them until we can get them welded. If candle wax and the torch doesn't work on the stuck tranny pulley then you have to get a new input shaft. Gotta get a new one for my murray.
"WD40 and impact". Sounds just like me lol.

"WD40 and impact". Sounds just like me lol. RN I have no clue how to reinforce it, since I cant just weld stuff outside since I want to reuse the deck lift lever, I cant weld stuff on top since it would misalign my shifter and lifts the body, I cant weld on the downside since there R all the mounts for Transaxle & stuff, I cant weld inside since there's the steering & stuff & other mounting brackets going on... My last Input Pulley I dumped a waste oil and heating oil mixture into the pulley, after it was penetrated with WD40 several days, made a fire in the pulley, and then took me the pin outta A FNR Diff & Beat the crap outta the thing til the Pulley was fully deformed but I got it loose & was able to reuse the center for my new pulley!

| Scored me this Stuff today! Prolly welding a Frame outta that box steel & then cutting up the old frame & welding it into the new Box Steel Frame! This Stuff is pretty sturdy so I guess that Rig wo'nt flex then after all! BTW: I need to get my Gas Sweeper going to clean the front yard! Looks horrible with all these Leaves & stuff & rusty junk & old grass outta Mower Decks lying around! | |
