Biggasmower's "Lawn Gone lawn boy" [2018 Build-Off Entry

Well since it's spring break soon and the snapper is waiting for more parts and the craftsman has not been noticed in the build off section and it's a slow build any way, I am going to try to build this in around a week, but might take longer than planned with the low or non existent funds I have. It's an old RER lawn boy that I got for free and most of the parts were already bought for other builds that never happened.

PLANS for this build :
Lowered to around 3 inches of clearance,
Small tires , 15x6.50x6 rear, 13x6x6 front.
Racing front end go cart spindles ,
36" live axle,
36 tooth axle sprocket,
14 tooth gearbox sprocket,
5.75 inch gearbox pulley
7 inch engine pulley,
14 hp kohler command engine (if this engine does not end up fitting/running I will use the Briggs flat head as pictured)
Peerless 700 transmission race prepped and oil filled+vented
New seat.
There are many other things that will be done to it like paint, custom extreme exhuast, and other goodies.
I hope to get this thing running 60+mph , and will continue swapping pulleys until I achieve a speed in that range.




IF I WIN OR GET IN THE TOP THREE ,I will do a burn out on this mower until the tires pop!

Aha !!! It made it in!! Lol

Got some stuff done , and everything went as planned ( I think)got the engine mounting moved forward and flipped the engine 180 , got the axle mostly in, enlarged the sprocket slot in the frame, and finally all of the rust is gone after a couple hours of sanding.

I like this chassis.  It looks like it built heavier than your snapper one.  I've had dreams in the back of my head about live axle swapping something like this like you did and turning it into a low buck go kart type thing.

EDIT: I came up with an idea for this when I glanced at your facebook post on the toilet. How about mounting the seat directly on the frame and cutting the steering column down to lower the steering wheel? This would give you a low center of gravity which you would want in a speed machine.

On the toilet ? Okay .... lol.   The tranny mounts under the seat, not sure if I could move it , and I like the steering collum. If I get it going as fast as predicted I might consider lowering the seat.  Oh can you run these specs in your speed calculator? 45 inch tire circumference,  7 inch engine pulley, 6000 rpms , 1:2 trans ratio, 14 tooth trans sprocket,  36 tooth axle sprocket? And can you run a 5.75 inch trans pulley and then run a 3.5 inch pulley?

Those fronts are temps but a few inches smaller than what is going to go on it. What do y'all think? So far this a pretty fast moving build.

Hmmmm , well there's 3 build off projects, the murray, craftsman , 3 mtds to fix/part out , a pressure washer to find rubber mounts for, a vanguard v twin I am trying to fix for a friends dad, and trying to organize the shop. Not too much going on lol

@biggasmowers I think you meant 2:1 for the trans ratio.  For every two turns of the input pulley, the output sprocket turns once.

So if you want to go 60mph use the 5.75 pulley.



And if you want to go 100mph and kill yourself, use the 3.5 inch pulley.

I think I will keep the 5.75 inch then.... and I don't tho k my engine could run the mower that fast( I will keep that ratio in mind when I build a super low racer )[(if ever)]

Nah, I am with you on that one. I don't even care to get my car over 90.

Yeah I think 60 or so will be fine for me. The engine is bolted in , trans is bolted in, axle is all setup except for a brake, front end is rolling but needs better tires , engine runs !! Not sure why it was not running when I took it off the lt 4000 but it could have been the mags where offsetting the flywheel and throwing it off balance bad. I used the stock front axle as it is 3/16" steel and really strong. I just welded my go cart spindles to the ends. Should do fine I think cause I burned it in on all sides possible lol .

Man you really have a need for speed. It will take some horsepower and torque to get to 60mph though. This rig seems nice and light though. I would tune the front end before I attempted any kind of speed run.

If you really get this RER to 60mph and take a video of you doing it on your phone gps. That is going to be a spectacle.

Yeah, I have had another kohler run a regular mower up to 45 or so and it was lugging a bit but that had big tires and a spicer transmission with a junk belt and crappy clutch that took away power. I do think because it has a gearbox and a very light , easy rolling frame that it has the capibility. I am going to take video of its first run and use my phone to test if it really goes that fast . Sure hope it does!!

Yeah it's just the picture. And the front is lower than the back so that didn't help.

That front end looks a little toed out, is it an optical illusion or is it really toed out a touch? JK

I like the go-kart spindle conversion.

Hopefully it works well, at least it's sturdy .

Made this pipe in about 10 min last night. Welds were clean and it went smoothly and it sounds great!

Nice job. Love the pipe!

Reminds me of a cannon on the back of a well built JDM car like a Supra or rx7
