Budget build murray [2018 Build-Off Entry]

It feels good. Wont know till it runs but I did direct steer on my craftsman and it was just fine. Gave me more control at higher speeds. I might mess around with the leverage if needed later on. If by the end of the build off I can come up with a pretty compact gear reduction I would prefer that route. I actually started with the stock murray unit but wasnt happy with it.

I am loving the old school feel of this thing.

Ok time for a update. I have been doing little things here and there on this thing. Lots of back and forth with myself on trying to make it look how I see it in my head. Lol.
Anyways its went through a few changes.

Made the inner rear fenders from a old sat dish.


Robbed some stainless from a microwave that went out for the dash



Onto the lights. $15 ebay special. Here I'm seeing what looks best for placement



Went with this. I still might mount them up and down and not side ways.

Wasn't happy with the hood so time to make one.. So I went and robbed metal from a stove







Picked up a broken trolling motor in the trash. So I pulled all the 12volt switches out then found out that the top would be good for a upper dash. Maybe light or switch mount



Hinged hood and added grill to dash brace. Also in this pic I'm working on the foot rest.

Cool!  Nice Progress.  It's really starting to look like a tractor now.  I would've welded tabs on the front bumper and mounted the lights there but those are nice and bright.

Thanks. I will be possibly adding a light to the bumper but not sure yet. Dont want it getting in the way or broken from the winch.

Dude you are crazy good at this stuff! Nice job, I would have just said screw it hood, deal with it, but you have the patience to redo it, and it turned out way better. Keep up the good work!

Thanks. I work with sheet metal every other day. I'm going to be making the belt guard the same ways from the other side of the stove. I think I'm nailing the old school look pretty good. This will be red when done to match the engine in just laying primer on parts that are done.

I was going to stick with the old hood but didnt like the vents on top.

It sure looks nice. Quite the custom build. One of several talented builders.

This thing is extremely cool. Nice fab work with the high tech frame being integrated into the transmission almost. Nice light weight and compact that way, plus it looks easy to work on too. Looking forward to seeing it all painted up!

@TheCollector Did I read that correct? You're going back to the original modified Murray hood you had on there?

i think he meant he didnt like the old hood that was on there, but the current hood is kinda old too lol

Man its looking good. The body lines flow together so good that it looks almost stock not build from something else. Keep it up.

@ crazy_carl I was saying what I didnt like about the old hood. I will not be going back to it as did not like the vents.

I picked up a harbor freight winch yesterday had a coupon for $45 so that's next on the list of to dos. I will be bringing in the front bumper as much as possible well about 2" is all I can go.

Ok I have been real busy so I haven't gotten alot done but here is a small update. Made a motor mount and got the motor mounted. Also welded the pulleys then finished up the clutch and bent out a belt cover.

Motor mount made of 1/8th plate and 1/8th angle all reused steel so filled in some holes.





Drilled out a delrin bushing for the clutch



Got the clutch system done. This is not the clutch pully I will be using



Took the steel from the other side of the stove to make a belt guard



Here it is all mounted up

That thing is nice! That pulley ratio may be a bit slow tho.

Its going to be a duel purpose machine. Work and play, I will have another set of pullies and belt for it since they are so easy to change
