| No kidding! here in about a week or so, ill be spending every day after school running the disc with the allis. The farm is actually my grandfather's, but he is getting up there in years, so not its up to my dad and i to do the work! he runs the combine, and i run the disc behind him. but with school, i always get behind (no matter how much i ask him, he wont let me skip school to run the disc ) so ill just have to work fast and late. And, i have made my decision on the f150. im going to head to the junkyard and find everything i need to convert to manual, and then do it when the transmission goes. if it doesnt work, then i can sell it back to the salvage yard. if it does work, then i got me a truck to drive again! that way, i dont have anything to loose but about 8 bucks in gas and a days work. I dont care about the lights on the dash, a check engine light doesnt bother me (its on anyways, probably for some sensor) right now there are 5 or 6 lights on the dash. i know the brake, ABS, check engine light, door ajar lights are all on. those are the ones i can think of off the top of my head lol | |

| Sounds like a fun time, I love me an old Allis. Is that truck safetied? If not it wont pass with those dash lights on. Other than that I'd like to see how this turns out! | Yea if we had to have our cars inspected in Indiana, i guarantee half the old trucks at my school would be gone. most people disable the seat belt dinger anyway. i know mine is, because other wise it continually goes off when you are driving because it thinks one of the doors is ajar. i could probably run a code check and get half the lights to go off, cause they are probably on for stupid reasons like the door sensor has a loose wire or it may even just be full of gravel dust. there is probably a small exhaust leak somewhere, or some sensor in the engine kickin on the check engine light, the temp sensor is probably dirty or a wire got cut or chewed off, ya never know with a farm truck. they dont bother me and it runs right, so i just leave it. well it usually runs right. it doesnt always... i need new spark plug wires. there are 2, both on the left side that dont clip into the plug anymore, they just kinda hang on. after a little while on a bumpy road the engine starts vibrating really badly because those 2 spark plug wires have fallen off lol
that probably aint good for it, but it is only a first vehicle. if i dont total it, itll go back to being a farm truck and the practice truck for all the next generation of cousins to practice on. even better if its a manual. my family believes in teaching manual. Its becoming a lost skill...unfortunately. a manual isnt even an option on the light duty pickups, ford or chevy. in heavy duty it is, but not a lot of people take it, unless you live on a farm. At fair (i am in 4-H and i raise animals for that) all you see are ford f2, 3, and 450s. the occasional dodge or chevy, but 90% of the trucks out there are stick. | |

| Well, it looks like ill be driving the gray pickup for awhile. I think my grandpa is going to will me his truck. he takes vfery good care of his stuff. his truck is a 1990 f350 dually. it has the zf5 5 speed manual trans with the 7.3 diesel, normally aspirated. it has a flatbed on it. i am considering taking the flatbed and duallys off and stealing the bed off of a single wheel f350 in the junkyard and repaint it. or i might find the bed off of a dually, i dont know yet. itll probably be a few years before it comes to me anyway. oh and i forgot to mention, it is only 2wd. it has dual fuel tanks, both functional. the 7.3 is the idi diesel too, not the powertroke. for pulling, i would probably use it to pull a camper, horse trailer (possibly) other general trailers. Likely nothing ridiculously heavy. | |

| The story is he and i went to clear out a treeline. he pulled 2 trailers behind it, both loaded to the max with whole hedge trunks, plus a load on the flatbed. Each trunk was between 16-30 feet. he estimated it about 14-18 tons between the 2 trailers, not including whatever was on the truck. that ol' diesel went a truckin right along. not sayin she liked it, but she most certainly wasnt strained to terribly much. He used to be a truck driver, so hes pretty good at estimating weight. this was a few years ago though. he hasnt pulled that much weight since. come to think of it, i dont think weve cleared any big tree lines since then:lol!: | |

| I dont have any pictures at the moment. idk when i will get any, but CraftsmanQuad19 will verify it has a heavya$$ bed on that thing. its 2wd, but it pulls 3x its weight out of ditches. because of the weight over the drive tires and tire chains every winter, grandpa makes his runs of the ditches(they are pretty steep and he lives on a highway, so there are quite a few slideoffs) he just goes around with his heavy duty towstraps and chains and pulls people up outta the ditch. there are a lot of not too bright people around there...theres people in big lifted 4x4s that think they are invincible with 4 wheel drive, and most of em get stuck anyways. One year, there was a lifted chevy 4x4 that really buried himself in the snow...grandpa just hooked onto him and pulled him up in granny gear. Needless to say, that guy was pretty impressed with grandpas truck. Part of it is he has so much experience driving semis and large trucks, hes pretty good at handling snow with just about anything | |

| Well...it looks like she finally died. The truck is not regularly driven. i went to start it to drive it a mile down the road to dump some scraps in the field, and the first thing i noticed was it was having some trouble starting. it was cranking fine, but just would start. it kept popping too, like it was trying to fire, but just could catch. The second thing i noticed, was when i put it in reverse, it went back about 4 feet and just stopped. no noises, no nothing. i revved the engine once, to see if that would move it, but nothing. i shifted it into park and back into reverse, still nothing. shifted it from neutral into reverse, still nothing. So, i decided to put it in drive. went forward like normal, no problems. i drove it the mile down the road and pulled up the hill to my grandparents house (a mile and a half down the road) i let her sit for about 30 mins, came out, and it was still struggling to start (fuel problem?) and i shifted it to reverse and crossed my fingers. well, it did roll backward, but it was as if it was in neutral, not actually being driven. i got to the end of the driveway, which is flat and tried it again, and sure enough, no movement. so i put it in 1st and just drove it home in first. well...i got home and went to back it into the shed, and it drove in reverse again! then the next day i went to move it, pulled it out and went to back it in alongside the shed, and nothing once more. i think she is dead. well reverse is at least. idk what would cause this, but i think its headed for the scrapyard. im considering yanking the engine and putting it up in the shed to tinker with for some later projects | |

| Did you check the fluid in the trans? Also if it was going into gear sometimes but not other times, there's a small possibility it could simply be a linkage problem

| yes, i checked the fluid. it was doing fine. and it seems to be shifting in and out of the gears. i went to do it again, and now its not doing anything, but if i pay close attention, when it is in drive i hear a slight metal on metal grinding noise that i didnt hear before, and now its not going anywhere at all. heck, it could be from me driving it. | |

| Hmmm.. when I started reading your post about the problem my first thought was that the torque converter in it was toast, I wouldn't be surprised if that is what's wrong with it. | Sounds like fuel pressure problems on startup (check fuel pressure)and blown clutches in the trans or bad seals on the clutch packs, in other words still blown clutches. | |

| I checked that fuel pressure like you suggested, and when i hit the little thing on the fuel rail, fuel shot up. it was clean, and smelled like gas. so it has good pressure. i might check the spark plugs, because they are the original from 2006. Thats what i was thinking that maybe the torque converter had gone out, with it acting like it was in neutral and all. now when i put it in drive and leave it idling, i cant push it like i can in neutral. its all a giant mess. at this point i think i am going to trailer it up to my grandpas, or park it in the treeline for the winter so that it is out of the way, and then next spring begin calling around to the area salvage yards to see what i can find in the way of manual transmissions. if i find one reasonable, i dont have much to loose, so i can see how it works if i swap it in. if none have a manual, which wouldnt suprise me, since they werent super common, then it looks like im gonna steal the parts i want and the truck is headed for the scrapyard. because i dont wanna spend 500 bucks and order one from amazon, only to find that its not gonna work. The truck isnt worth that much either, not with the crappy suspension and the weak overall frame and body thats on it

| Nope, probably not. she sits behind the shed now. its been sittin there since i drove it last. The weeds are up to the running boards, and the damn front tire is flat again (it has almost 80000 miles on the current set of tires, they are literally almost completely bald) so, as it sits now, it probably wont be moving for a while, especially since i have a project in the works now. Its the engine swap on my ranch king. So unless i get really bored, its probably just gonna sit back there for parts. i kinda want to steal the engine, and it has a good battery, and i mightaswell steal whatever else i can get from it

| no, it was originally a cream color. its not really all that faded, it just has little random circles of rust on it. where the paint peeled off, i suppose. id be repainting it anyway, probably black or red. it will probably get a regular pickup bed on it too, and im not sure if i should keep or leave the duals. that is, when i get it. i will probably be out of high school before this becomes mine. So in the meantime, im not quite sure what im going to drive when i get my license! | |
