Im really excited to be entering a little green Bolens FMC this year. Its going to be a build with by daughter for my daughter hence the name Daisy ( She picked the name lol). The plan is for it to be an off road toy that will be able to do some light trail riding and tow her friends around wile still function around the property ie, hauling wood or plowing maybe.
Our to-do list: -Breaks -Steering alignment -Engine (hoping for 8-12hp) -Pulley swap / Clutch -Trans-axle (making some bad sounds) -Lights -Wiring -Winch -Tow points -Peddle extensions so my daughter can reach the clutch/break (possibly a hand break?) -Tires -Fronts Shocks (maybe) -Paint (she wants pink)
At this point we only have the rolling chassis. But hope to have an engine for in if the next few weeks.

The old bolens looks pretty neat. Cant wait to see how it turns out. Hand brake would be the best method, should be easy to pull for your little one if it isnt going crazy fast (or on crazy bumpy road lol) good luck!

Now that the Ice is melting we have been able to start getting the FMC cleaned up and ready! We sourced and engine and seat today, its a Briggs 190cc 6.75hp. I like the idea of going with the smaller engines. especially when its free!!!!!! Next thing is to mount the engine. we're going to need to modify the engine mounts to fit.. its a lot harder than it sounds when your working with a 6 year old lol.

Its cool how your daughter is involved, especially being 6.
Seeing as how thats pull start, you should see about running the recoil handle out the dash or something. Then you wont have to open the hood to start. Exposed recoils are cool.
OHHH routing the recoil through the dash is a really cool idea! think it would look really neat and your right Doug it would be nice not having to open the hood every time. Thanks for the idea! And as for my daughter.. shes gotten right outa hand with it. she asked if I could pick her up early from school tomorrow so we can work on it haha. guess im running out for parts on my lunch break tomorrow haha.

I built a husky for the kid when he was around 4 of so. Reversed the clutch so you had to push clutch to go. Then hooked up throttle to same pedal. So when you pushed pedal, it engaged belt, and revved engine to go. What was nice of all you had to do to stop was let off pedal.
I tried that idea, putting the pull start in the dash. Didn't work too good. I hit myself in the jaw sitting in the seat and was too hard to pull sitting in the seat on a cold start too. Because you have to pull up over your shoulder.

That is such a cool idea!!! It would defiantly make it easier for a kid who is used to driving power wheels. I might look into that idea, see if it would work with my setup.. Im sure it would with some tweaking haha.

The Daisy Tractor has really been done for some time now.. My daughter used it all summer and we had a blast!! ive linked a video with some clips and what we did and used. every part put into this tractor was a salvage. the tractor was thrown in with another tractor I bought last year just so the guy could free up the space so even it was free. The only money I have in it is i the paint. and the decal. I doubt it's gonna win this year as I've seen some absolutely amazing builds. But we had a blast working on it and My daughter is super proud to have it in the competition. Thankyou everyone who helped us out with the tips!
