| Wow, lots of competition this year. I'll have to work hard with all the fancy plans everyone has. Anyways, this is my entry. It is a 1984 simplicity 6211 (last two numbers are the tractor hp, and the 62 means simplicity made 62 different attachments that this tractor would accept) It has a 3 speed cast iron transaxle with an extremely low first gear, it goes about half a mile an hour stock at full throttle, its slow. In 3rd its about 10 miles an hour. 2nd is about 5 mph. I'm starting with a "running" tractor, but I'm replacing the stock 11hp briggs with a 19.5 hp briggs oppy, which I have a larger than stock adjustable carb for (the one the motor had on it was the 4 screw non-adjustable one) so I'm going to call it 20hp. It is a 46 ci motor. I am going to try to gear it up to do about 40 top end to keep up with the quads, and I'm gong to build front leaf spring suspention like redlinemotorsports did, and I'm going to replace the stock steering box with a rack and pinion from the POS "go cart" sitting next to the tractor. I'm going to build a PTO powered winch with a foote gearbox of a rer I have, and a rear rack is planned. The rear fenders are narrow, so I plan to put on craftsman fenders or make custom ones, and maybe have the ability to hold two people. I am using the 25" bearclaw tires on the back of the craftsman you can see in the background, and also 21" front tires. Dual exhaust and gas pedal, and I have to swap the clutch to the other side of the tractor to put the gas there, and I will upgrade with go-cart breaks. I may end up doing direct steering and handlebars and mount the throttle up there. Good luck to all the contestants! winch/suspension stuff | |

| Thanks guys! I need to focus on one project this year, last year I had 3 tractors and the year before I had 2, so I had a lot of half-baked builds. This year I'm going to try to be better at focusing on one tractor till it's done. Never done suspention, it will be interesting. I'm trying to decide between solid axle or a setup similar to ford's TTB system. Then I need to find out if I should suspend the rear axle with springs or not... its a horizontal input, I could do it without many belt problems... | |

| I also want to add a right angle gearbox to my belt system. It would have a belt from the engine to the RAGB (engine is vertical shaft) and then go out horizontal to the horizontal input on the transmission with chain, making it easier to make rear suspension. hmmm... | |

| Yeah matt I snapped the axle on the mower the box was on, so I decided to make a winch with it, as it is not the 3 speed foote, but only forward/N/reverse, so it should be perfect for a winch. I gave up on electric winches, they suck down the battery too fast. I paid $300 for it not running, but I liked it enough to do it. | |

| Its the same trans, but they left out two gearsets. It even will move into the other speed positions, but they are just not there. If one had the gears he could make it a 3 speed. | |

| No, I have been really busy with family and school, and my cars, so I have not made any progress on it. I will try to tear into the front axle this weekend, and extend the frame for the spring mounts, and mock up the winch. | |

| BIG UPDATE - PICS & VIDEO TOMORROW!!! I pulled the front axle apart, did some exhaust work, and mocked up the front suspension, and pulled all my stuff up to the shop so I can work on it better. Pics and vid coming up tomorrow, vid will have the motor running so you can hear the exhaust. Does anyone have any tips on mounting the springs to the frame so they slide enough to do their job but not be too loose? | |

| I just talked to my buddy Zsmachines and I'm going to trade him a seat for his rally tractor for a set of dirtbike coil overs. They should work better and take up less space than the leaf springs. I was going to extend the frame for the leafs, but now I'm just doing it for the bumper and winch. Today I'm going to work on extending the frame and mounting and building the PTO winch, and maybe get to work on installing the rack and pinion from the POS go cart. the stock steering is geared way too high for turning bigger than stock tires, and the angles of the steering box arm that moves to steer the wheels are so bad that if your stock front tires go flat it puts so much strain on it that it can bend or strip the gears. | |

| This thing is looking pretty neat so far, coilovers should work alright, video had a little weird audio noises, but whatever lol. Is your rear fender set up to lean back like that somewhat like a hood for storage? Or is it just unbolted? Sorta curious. | |

| yeah sorry about the vid. The rear fenders have a spring loaded latch that holds the fenders down, and when you push the release on both sides you can flip the rear up. that's where the battery is. | |

| Yet another idea.. Direct steering with handlebars and hand throttle and brake. I pulled the trans out, and found out why my brakes didn't work before. The brake lining was completely gone, and the key had sheared on the brake drum. I guess I am going to order a 4" go cart drum and band for a 3/4" shaft, and a new woodruff key. The old one was 3", so this should be better. Maybe I could do a disk, but I don't like them much. | |
