Bolens 1050 tubeframe snowplow build

I have a bolens 1050 and i have no clue what year. Help would be grateful..  Pic will be up soon. But back to the point i am going to be upgrading the original bolens snow and dirt plow all whilst building a 3 point hitch for a project in my advanced metals class. I am super pumped to do this build and hopefully will be posting often.  I have already replaced the original 10hp wisconsin which was missing ignition parts with a 16 hp briggs single cylinder. Talk about power! I also need to figure out a way to stop the driveshaft from spinning when i push the clutch down. As i said before any help is awesome and I am grateful. This is also my first ever post.. So I am a forum newb...

i am a big guy with the bolens tractors. i myself have a 74' Bolens 1055 (g10)

i know what you mean about the driveshaft not stopping. mine does it too. if its set up the same way as mine, there is a brake band right where the driveshaft meets the tranny. there should be a small cup bolted to the driveshaft and the band that would rub on the cup. its probably worn down like mine. you might be able to adjust it, but most likely not. a good place to source parts is sams bolens.

to... I was thinking a go kart disc brake adapted to tje driveshaft would work

that go-kart brake, if you can find a place to mount it, and make sure it will run true, sounds like a good idea

There is about four inches if shaft in front if the driven pulley that i could use..

that would work, just dont weld directly to the shaft. plan on replacing the carrier bearings at some point. i just had to do mine, and that intails pulling the driveshaft. weld onto it and youre going to have a bad time.

Yeah i will find a pully that will fit and bolt on the brake rotor to the pulley

Wow, that is some old, old iron. I cant believe they made stuff so heavy duty. Pretty neat. Got the hood for it?

Yep i have the hood... But whith that 16 hp briggs the hood wont fit...

that is the same clutch setup as mine, and we have a VERY similar driveline. instead of the brake directly on the driveshaft, it looks like yours has an aux shaft out of the tranny for braking. very similar though

No, the brake drum only spins if the tractor is in gear...

Well I went out to start the old beast, and she wouldnt start and started dumpin gas all over the ground! After pulling the carb apart, i found a giant hole in the float! I silver soldered the float, and now it works great! Who knew! And yes 1997 murray i will probably start a thread if the craftsman and probably the moline puller

well good you got it fixed!if you need it I have the 9hp briggs from my simplicity that looks idenical to that 16, so if you need stuff I can bring it to the pull this saturday.

are you going to use a hydraulic pump or are you going to use a hand lift for your plow?

my 6211 has a manual lift for the plow.

The bolens will have a manual lift for the plow, probably hooked up to the old deck lift lever. And yes 1997 Murray I would probably just need the carb or float but that would be very helpful.

Well so after neglecting this post for some time lol I figure that I should get some recent pictures of the tractor. It is totally transformed lol.. now it is my main Puller.Hopefully pics up after school.
