| as if some of you might know i want to do an engine swap on my mud mower. i want to replace the orignial Honda GXV270 (9hp) with a briggs 5.5 hp push mower engine. im doing this because my original engine keeps breaking down, runs horrible and i always have trouble getting it going. the replacement engine is brand new and doesnt have an electric start so goodbye batterys and wireing. LOL and here is the brand new engine that will serve me till the end of times the underside looks kinda wierd but i got it all figured the old, bad engine... farewell the engine and wireing removed: more to come! | |

| made some good progress today even though i didnt have that much time (lawn maintainence). so i started of with making the custom flywheel, as if you can see its bolted directly to the drive pully and also serves as a belt slider (i made this because these engines normaly use the blade as flywheel): this engine had 3 mounting holes so i obviously had to drill some new mounting holes and weld some sheetsteel in. but i also had to make some bushings to lift the engine slightly (you can see them in these 3 images) : this one is realy hard to see, its underneath the carb/airfilter: and this one is next to the exhaust: the official new engine location: with the flywheel on, its not even 1/2 inch away from the clutch spring! my modded single pully clutch: my transaxle is not from peerles, tecumseh, foote, dana or whatever. i looked all around it when i had it apart but i couldnt find a single brand, i guess this transaxle was fabricated by honda and the lower pully was normaly build to power the mowing deck, it will soon be replaced with a bushing: thats all i did today. i hope your enjoying this how to/build topic, more to come! | |

- I really like this mower, do you have any of the body or do you just run it without? also good thinking on the custom add on flywheel, how does it do offroad
thanks, i run this mower without the body because i didnt like the way the orignal body looks, i might however concider chopping the original body and use it aigan. it does very good offroad, the V-tread tires do realy good in the mud, steep hills or hauling heavy stuff. it has an open diff because it works better for my conditions

- very nice what's the motor off of it looks like a push mower engine
yep, these engines were originaly disigned for push mowers, im not sure at the moment what model it is but is very similar to the Briggs&Stratton Quantum engines. these engines normaly use the blade as the flywheel, thats why im making a flywheel myself

I don't think I'd want to ride around with a gas engine so close to my noogies! HAHAHA, it seems kinda dangerous but the worst thing that can happen is that the piston will blow out of the cylinder and mess my feet up realy bad, but thats very unlikely to happen i guess...

| one thing that i honestly dont like about the new engine is that the airfilter/intake is just over a foot removed from the ground. i might have to concider making a snorkal or somesort. but im not realy plannin on using this tractor for heavy offroad abuse anymore, more like a working tractor | |

| today i decided to finish the flywheel/drive pully. i broached in a keyway using a 2 way broach set: after doing this i ran into a bit of a problem: the keyway on the cranckshaft wasnt as long as the keyway in the pully, so i had to ad a clamping bolt in a very wierd position but it should work just fine (the bolt will go in a lot deeper so it doesnt make any contact with the belt) : and i also discovered that the tread in the crankshaft was a US size so i took a bolt out of my old MTD parts tractor and tryed if it fit but it turned out to be fine tread. but i want this build done soon so i came up with this alternative: its a 2 bolt clamp that squeezes around the crankshaft and keeps the pully on the right altitude. thats it for now, the only things i have to do now is install the shorter belt and ad a cable to toggle the engine on and off. im also thinking of putting a 3 point hitch to the front of the tractor for a pushing blade | |

| This is a neat little build. The crank bolt may be 7/16-20 thread.
I used a push mower engine to power a small racer for the kid. Didn't bother with an extra flywheel, it seemed to run fine without it.

Thanks, if i would use this as a racer i probably wouldnt bother with a flywheel aswell, but im looking to use this machine for plowing/hauling. So with this flywheel i cant rev it quickly but my engine doesnt tend to stall when plowing/hauling

| so first i want to appoligize for not posting any updates recently. my old computer broke and i just baught a brand new HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.
so here is the deal: about a day after taking the last picture i trew fuel and oil in the Motor pulled it only 1 time and she ran like a beauty. BUT after 10 seconds of running it started making a nocking noise. it turned out that the custom flywheel had came loose and made the nocking noise. so i removed the custom flywheel and tryed it aigan. this time it didnt nock and i neither noticed any lack of power even though i ran it without the custom flywheel. about a week later the engine started nocking aigan. it turned out that the key in the keyway started getting play so i welded the caststeel engine pully to one side of the clamp and this completely removed the nocking aigan. i hope this will hold up for now and im pretty sure it will last for ages.
I also made a ditch plow and a normal plow, and since im still doing many mods weekly to this tractor i have decided to start a tread on it SOON.
