PostSubject: Simplicity 4208 Mud Mower Project   hydro - Simplicity 4208 Mud Mower Project Icon_minitimeMay 1st 2014, 9:30 am

So a couple days ago I bought myself a Simplicity 4208 in great shape for $175 bucks. It smokes a bit but that doesn't bother me because eventually it will get a different motor for it. But for now it will do. I have already made a gas pedal out of a bike brake lever and a mountain bike cable shortened to fit. Had a small spring laying around and used that so it would return to idle position. And when I bought it it had this stack on it. It is straight piped and the guy who made it made it well. He made a bracket to support it and a heat shield too. Sounds nice, I think I'm gonna keep it... for now... Very Happyhydro - Simplicity 4208 Mud Mower Project Img_0711

Yea, I just don't want to spend $80 a piece on itp mud lites or something like that. Do you have any recommendations for mud tires?

For 3/4" I'd go 22" Duro Knobbys or 22" Duro Mud and Sand tires

I know this probably sounds simple and dumb but how should I measure the size of my rims so i get the right tire size. Are back rims just generic? Thanks

you can measure them if you want. Usually they are 8" tall and 8" wide or 8" tall and 10" wide. You could go by tire size too just doesn't acuity measure the rim width itself.

It says its a 18x8.5-9
So does this mean I could get any tire as long as it was a 9 for the width of the rim?

the last number is the bead size (rim size) so you need to stay at that measurement. the first is the overall diameter of the tire, the 2nd is the width, and the 3rd is the rim size. on my tractor, stock tire is 23x8x12, and i just replaced them with 25x8x12 Kenda Executioners with no problems. so, you can go taller and wider, as long as you maintain the 9 inch bead. hope that helps

So I'm liking the 22x11-9 Carlisle Srykers on Amazon. They are like the Duro mud and sand but they will fit my rim. What do you think?

PostSubject: No Starter, Make a skid plate!!!   hydro - Simplicity 4208 Mud Mower Project Icon_minitimeMay 2nd 2014, 6:58 am

Well after the starter gear being toast I decided to start making a rough design of a skid plate out of some leftover light sheet metal.
What do you guys think?

Good start but you should make it go the full length of the frame so it dont just scoop up mud and water and get all in the belts.

True, I think i'm gonna make a couple more for the rest of the under side of the tractor so it will be covered.
