A 40" belt? Idk how your are measuring belts but you're wrong. My racer with a 700 5" behind the engine has a 36" belt

maybe he is mesureing the center-to center distance. the stock murray widebody belt is 98".

That's belt stretched out measured end to end

sorry to break this to you, but that is not the way factorys mesure belts.

Put a mark on your belt with some sort of marker.  Take a tape measure and work your way around the belt until you get back to the mark.  Calculate the number of inches that it is, and that is your belt size.

That'll work. Just make sure that when you wrap the rope around the pulleys, that the rope is as thick as your required belt is wide.

Alright I got the correct belt in and on, it was 119in y'all were right, and all that's left to get her driving is the clutch and shifter, and gotta fix the flooding problem. Hopefully I'll get to take a test drive tomorrow!

It lives! Drove the beast today, and it has loads of torque and speed, finished the clutch today but still have to finish the shifter.

Hey I'm back lol sorry guess been of the grid for a while here's an update I striped the wood off the deck to redo it correctly and I finally did the railing it's tall but for me it feels safer if it were to go over
