| Picked this junker up yesterday. The engine code says 1991, but who knows if i's original. Runs like a top though, one of the best runners I have owned. I planned to re sell it because the deck works, but after getting it home I found that it will not go any faster than 3rd gear. I don't know why it does that so any advice on that subject would be great. The smaller drive belt is pretty shot so that may fix it. for now my plan is to get it driving in all the speeds and then offroad it until the stupid FNR pops, then swap in a real transmission and have 20+ gears to choose from. (Assuming I swap in a 4 speed spicer I have, that will give me 28 gears) Gotta love the glass headlights! | |

| That's the same mower/frame the Red Fox started as... The mower itself is quite robust... the puny FNR is tougher than it looks. Dunno that I'd try jumping it, The axles are small, but the frame could hold a buick | |

| my brother has a 94, 5" pulley on the back. hasn't had problems yet, re-grased the transaxle yesterday. make sure that you put the bolts in the front mounts, or when you shift to revirse the belt will pop off. | |

| after I got it home is when I noticed a decent sized crack in the case of the tranny. so I'm sure it wont last too long. still seems to work fine though besides not going over 2 mph. for an mtd this thing sure is a tank, its not made out of the crazy thin metal like the mid 90s ones were and the steering seems solid. Need some ideas on paint, the nose was chrome at one point so I hope to get all the red off of it. | |
