front spindle length????

I am building a race mower, i know that the spindles on the front have to be 5/8 thick to accommodate hubs. But how long do they have to be? any help would be good Smile

I Use 3/4" - 4-1/2" on mine.

But "normal" gokart is 5/8" - 3-1/4".
