| That's a nifty little machine. The snowblower looks a little bit big for the tractor. Running all that stuff at one time has got to use a lot of the 6hp available. | |

| I agree. But I'd expect the tractor at ~ 1/4 MPH not to take too much HP, leaving most of the 6hp to the PTO. It really depends on the snowblower design and how efficiently the power gets there... At best, it would work as well as a normal 6hp snowblower. At worst, it's a free boat anchor. Another look at the pic... That's a single stage thrower which means the auger on that thing spins fast, really fast! They're dangerous but can work well. The 4-bar linkage that's supporting the blower would work awesome for a plow as well. Looks like there's a PTO pulley on the flywheel side of the engine. Is this for a generator??? The older motors that were rated a 6hp are a lot stronger than the "new" 6hp. I think it's measured differently, but big difference I've noticed. | |

I think that usually comes down to continuous vs peak hp ratings. If a motor is designed to put out 6hp all day long, and for its entire service life, then it generally wont be running WOT to make that 6hp for efficiency reasons. So then it would be able to make more than 6hp at its peak output. Take a new motor rated at 6hp. Its probably 6 peak hp. Where the motor running balls out WOT peaks at 6hp, vs normal running loads would be less than 6hp. The other thing i was thinking it could be, but less likely, is motor rpm. 6hp could be say for a simplified example, 50lb/ft torque @ 2000rpm, or an equivalent rating could be 6hp is 25lb/ft @ 4000rpm. So if that older motor is a lower rpm motor, it would have to have more torque to be able to still be rated the same hp. Like some Tug i got to tour when i was younger. Its engine was rated at something like 450hp and i thought that was low for a big Tug. At that time i didnt understand torque, hp and rpm and how they played together, but it was 450hp @ like 110rpm, and so it made like 13000lb/ft or something crazy. HP is an interesting rating, and depending on how you play with the numbers, you can have all sorts of different ratings. | |

| Very well said. I agree with the peak vs. continuous power output games that the manufacturers will play. RPM does have a tremendous effect on HP at the same torque. But if I'm not mistaken, our engines were all designed to run at 3600 peak RPM which I think is an industry standard for power equipment. I'd expect most HP rating to be expressed at that RPM. | |
