Richies Mud buggy

well guys, not much work done today, had to get up at 6 and go help my brother figure out what was wrong with his truck, after figureing out it was the fuel pump, we had 2 choices, drop the full tank or move the bed, we moved the bed, then got the pump out, then we spent a hour trying to find the pump in a store in town, we finally found it, and got it put in and the bed put back on, then his wife called and they hgad busted pipes, so then i had to go help repair pipes in 18 degree weather under a house......then i got home and he asked me to fabricate a heat shield for his fourwheeler, took me half a hour to get it made, then i decided to say screw it and came in and drank a pot of coffee,....and then the mower started callin my name so i went to work on her, i got the front axle cut out, and i went on and cut out a 5" gap to remove the previous owners "repairs" and filled it in with metal, i got one side done, then decided to come in cause the temp. started dropping again and im wore out lol

as you can see, i got it patched nice and clean, and this side is straight now


and here is a pic of what i cut out

i will get the other side done tomorrow, and then i can finally start on stretching the front out

ive got 2 more braces to do on the front end from where i stretched it, then im going to put sheet metal in it to have it closed up, i will do that and get pics tomorrow, and working with this new metal it spoiling me, its the first time ive really worked with new steel and not scrap and it welds soooooo good

got the front stretch done now , well the structural part is done, now i have to fill in the holes with sheet steel

I was close lol, and yeah I bet that shiny metal was a blast to weld. will be interesting to see how this evolve

it welds so clean and easy lol, im going to get the pan mounted on it tomorrow, and ima see about mountin the front axle

someone want to tell me why everytime i start a build that needs lots of fab. work, it rains every other day?

It's in the rules.... you didn't read the fine print

of course you aint, this is a build off, the best work wins ,ive still got lotsa metal work to do

well got some updates,

I'd put some triangular gussets behind the axle support pillars. they will help keep flexing and cracking from happening around the bottoms of your axle supports. (where your 1/1 uprights weld on to the frame)

Great work so far man!

I agree with lawren. I woulda suggested some axle caster so it turns a little better but you already welded it lol.

thanks for the input guys lol great minds think alike, i have the brace's cut for the axle mount's but i ran out of wire
the axle is tilted back a little so when i turn the wheels will angle some, but not much

im out of weldin wire, so im not going to get anything done today, but here are some pics of it with the wheels on

they scrape the dirt road here every few weeks, but mostly it will be for paved roads lol, the way im gearing the thing it will love to pop wheelies tho
