1968 Sears 6 hp Custom Features an aluminum mowing deck with 90 degree bevel gear drives... Engine isn't original, some writing in the manual suggests a replacement engine was purchased 1-15-1982 for $263. Excellent fuel mileage, one tank of gas lasts you as long as your gloved hands can stand the vibration from the steering wheel (few hours maybe?).
Who needs the hastle of electic start, battery and assosiated wiring problems? Pull start only on this puppy. What's truely custom is my custom cardboard shield that keeps cut grass from covering the flywheel screen.
Tractor with manuals and the help of an older gentleman with some ramps to load it: $100 from a local small engine swap meet. Needed a carb cleaning and some fuel lines, but it works.
The gear drives are the weak link. You don't want to hit too many rocks or stumps sticking out of the ground. I already had one apart after I caught an unoticed stump and a c-clip came off inside one of the gear boxes. Everything is back together for this seasons mowing. Although I did buy a murry select for $200 as a backup (with electic start).
i have 2 primary mowers. the first is my toro walkbehind that i use commercially. it is powered by a 20 horse Kohler command V-twin. in dire need of a rebuild. it ticks, knocks, burns more oil than my bolens (ol smokey) and dosent like to start. it has a 44 inch deck, with a 5.5 horse briggs intek OHV trac vac motor, which blows all the clippings into a trash barrel on the front of the mower. it dose ok for its age. it is driven hydraulically, there is 2 pumps, 2 flow valves and 2 hydraulic motors, one for each wheel. the hour meter reads over 3366.7 hours. the other is a 2004 huskee supreme powered by a 18.5 briggs ELS. it is junk. it spends more time torn down than working. it has just over 360 hours on it. it never starts, overcharges, wont run, just JUNK... 42 inch mower deck, FNR tranny. those are my 2 grass cutters. heres a vid of the proline.

nice! where do you find all of these old tractors?
Some stuff I get at a swap meet in Pennsylvania. But I know a guy that has a bunch of mower stuff that he picks up here and there, so I buy stuff from him sometimes.
