what transaxle

what transaxle would be best for a racing mower. i want around or more 30mph. i am using an electronic clutch so it has to be able to take a hit.

If you want a transaxle the best to use would be a peerless 820. But the most common thing and easier thing to use is a peerless 700. Thats what most racers use.

Please tell me about this clutch you plan to use.

the electronic pto clutch will spin on the engine until i engage it then it will lock and grab the engine. its a clutch that they use to drive the belts on some mowers. i don't know much about it because its one of my friends ideas to use it. i am using it because i need a bigger front pulley to make it go faster but i cant put the bigger pulley on because my clutch would hit it. i am just hoping that i don't flip when it engages.

If it works, it will probably work once, then die a fiery death... These electromagnetic clutches are NOT designed to withstand the kind of abuse you're about to throw at it. May the force be with you- you're gonna need it.

Ok I'll jut have to biuld a jack shaft if I don't put the pro clutch on the engine because when I lower the mower my belts will need to move.

I don't see why it wouldn't last. My dads friend has a boat with a gator tail mud motor or something on it with a 35hp vanguard. He also has a lawn mower with a electric pto like you guys are talking about. We took the mud motor apart and they are the same, same brand and every thing. This mud motor would take the abuse or even more that a racing mower would have because the trust of the prop in water or mud. To start the engine or slow down the boat you just flip the switch.

Cummins, you seem to be forgetting that a prop slips, and a mower blade only engages so hard, too. Using an EM clutch for a mechanical driveline is a whole other ball of snot. There is no slippage to be had, it will be a very rough engagement.

About the best one can hope for is that the belt will serve as an engineered weak link and provide the much needed slippage. While this scenario will accelerate belt wear, at least it MIGHT minimalise breakage of more expensive stuff.

With the right tuning(belt tension), it may work. But, you are loosing a lot of control. Climbing hills, or worse yet, rolling backwards while in a forward gear, require feathering of the clutch to control speed, and prevent accidents.

Now with that said, its just a mower. It's not like you are building the space shuttle. Try it, and see what happens. Worse case, you eventually install a regular setup.(or pop a tranny).
